Im in the same boat.....Feb'08 GXL D4D, sovereign bull-bar, dual battery, GME UHF, broom stick, towbar, tinted windows etc but now wanting Ridepro + billy's fitted all round for 35mm (ish) lift but Ian Berry (underwritten by CGU) turned me down. I have been with them for many yrs and have 2 x cars and house/contents with them. Same reason - it is greater than 1.25". Nice i have found this out now JUST before fitting u'graded suspension. Hate what they would have said if i mentioned the intent of fitting a DPChip!! Currently looking at Australian 4WD as an option....stay tuned.

Anyone else care to shed some light??!?!?!

Hiya - may i suggest give CGU a ring directly - just to hear it from the horses mouth (or other extremity). Unless SA branches are stricter than our neighbours (must be becasue we have better=more fun tracks!) any CGU branch should give the same story.

Alas - not a major concern now as i have found the Oasis in DGA. Hopefully it wont dry-up in the next few days...

Just squaring away some loose ends before I take delivery next week.

Just got off the phone to CGU Insurance, through Police Credit Union where I am a member of them.

Was given quote of $650.58 per annum. $54.21 per month with a $300 excess. That is with $1810 for ARB Bullbar, $400 window tinting and towbar fitted. Includes new for old replacement for first two years (including accessories of I can provide receipts) or less than 30,000kms. And I get a free windscreen every year :P

I quizzed them about coverage on tracks, beaches etc. Was explained to me that I am covered ANYWHERE in Australia, up to and including 200 nautical miles off of the coast

Pretty happy with that one 8) escpecially given I'm only a 26 y/o

No suspension lift planned just yet, they may knock me back after that

        Cheers,
        AJ

AJ - welcome to the club of happy Prado owners.....oh, yeah...a tad premature but nonetheless you will get there. hopefully u havent been waiting for too long....

May i suggest giving DGA a call and bounce it past them. if you do ever get to think about accessories/mods etc - then they pretty much will include anything (so long as it is legal). at very least - it serves as a comparison. they also offer new for old for the first 2yrs or 30,000km - that is pretty std as far as that goes but what is interesting is the allowance for 2 "at fault" claims per year and no loss of rating. i sincerely hope i dont have to use it - but u know when you start to use these toys - things can go wrong.

not sure if i am allowed to mention company names - but like yourself - it is often very handy to know who to contact (especially at the 11th hr).

            Interesting :?

I have just received my NRMA renewal and it has come in at $1003 for an agreed value of $46170 (don't know where they got that from) Anyway have started checking around and DGA want $755 for a value including accessories of around $54K & windscreen covered anywhere in Oz, on or off road and with any modifications including lift and higher profile tyres.

I have had full no claims for several years now and can't work out how come NRMA is so expensive. Matt, how much are you paying through NRMA?

              Hi again,

Following my previous post I just thought I would let you know the reason I put that up was that I had already spoken to CGU. I rang them to let them know I had put the 2" lift in and the response was that they will no longer cover the car. There limit is 1.5" maximum. Some insurance companies will cover higher, and some just say as long as it is roadworthy. I would be careful with the definition of roadworthy, as 2" lift is currently not roadworthy in some states! The new standards that are being put forward include a lift of up to 2" and tyre diameter up by 50mm, but this is not a national standard yet.
I'm still looking for the best option, but it looks like it's going to cost me a heap more!

                Clayton,

I'll be using CGU as some cheap insurance until my lift kit gets put in. I'm not sure on what resitrictions Toyota have with new vehicles and lift kits Vs warranties.

This might keep me with CGU until the warranty is expired.

Better click search and find out what/ if there are any warranty issues now

                Cheers,
                AJ

I think these are one of those threads everyone needs, so thought I'd share one of the better quotes I've received for the new Prado when it arrives shortly.

QBE - I have a motorbike insured with them too.

4 years replacement policy: no additional cost
windscreen & other windows policy:no additional cost
                  NCB protection: no additional cost
14day wait if stolen then settled
                  choice of repairer if required
gazetted & ungazetted roads as long as it's within the limitations of the vehicle
                  no driver under 19yrs
insured for $62651 - that's the price of car including the accessories & excluding the discounts I did receive on the car & accessories.
                  $784
                  $500 excess

there were a couple of others that were close, but I feel more confident with an insurer I know.

I wonder if where you live is considered less risk, probably doesn't help me being only 250km's away from Sydney with a 180 litre fuel tank

Crikey I've well been ripped off then, after reading some of these quotes.

I was originally with Alliance, they quoted me $1800 agreed value $64k
I knew that sounded expensive so I got a quote from Swan $1200 for same package. I thought I'd done well saving $600 obviously I was wrong.
I've just passed my 21 day cooling off period too.

Fair chance your West Oz insurance premiums are directly a result of PPers get togethers and subsequent claims
