renewed mine with AAMI a couple of days ago. with the bar, no name stereo, coopers, spotties, agreed value of $35k it was $805pa.

asked about how far i could go with mods before they said i should look elsewhere and they seemed to think that i could do what i wanted, they only cared about people under 25 ramping up the mods... but i wasn't convinced.

Well I just went through the process with the TIO but alas when it came to asking about 4WDing their response was that the insurance would only cover the car on gazetted roads.

This was a deal breaker for me as it meant no coverage on beaches or non gazetted tracks.

They were okay with a 50mm lift kit so long as the car was legal on the road.

i'm not 30 yet but anticipate it will go down further once that one goes past.

i found just car insurance pretty good when i was a little younger, sillier and had a questionable driving history.. underwritten by AAMI so policy is similar, could be worth a look!

Well I will try this one more time as I have been unable to post anything tonight, I keep getting an invalid session message when I try. Hopefully this time it will work, I have done a system restore back to the 01 Oct in case there was an automatic update that did me over.

Anyway I managed to get a quote from DGA for $870 on my 07 D4D VX with approx $15k worth of extras.

DGA said they would cover the car anywhere in Australia I wish to take it including making my own tracks. They did not care about the 50mm lift so long as the rig was roadworthy according to the MTA then it was fine by them.

That's not too bad. When I went into Suncorp before we left for the trip, my excess went from $500 to $3000. Needless to say I am no longer covered by Suncorp and went to TCIS for the car and camper trailer.

                Cheers,

I predict that insurance will go up with the global credit crisis. Expect it to go up a fair bit too. Thats my 2c

Re: Comprehensive Insurance Coverage for Prado

Well just something to know if contemplating insurance with DGA. They will insure all your accessories but will not insure any modifications. So things like exhaust mods, lift kits, engine mods will not be covered by them, you can have them on your car but they will not pay out on them in an accident.

That's impressive. I haven't had to put any claims in (touches wooden desk  ) but I would imagine most companies would somehow try to at least investigate if there was a way to get out of it.
Just hope I don't need to worry about it with AAMI as I'm more likely to stuff something up majorly off road then on the blacktop - can't speak for people hitting me of course.

Has anyone had any recent dealings with AAMI (positive or negative), I am thinking of changing to them, as RACV has increased my premium by $126 from last year with no explaination. AAMI quote is $260 less. Open to other suggestions too.

Re: Comprehensive Insurance Coverage for Prado

I have been with AAMI for approx 15 years now - comprehensive insurance. First up was 1986 60 series cruiser, then followed by three Prados - a 2000 90 VX, then a 2005 120 GXL series, and now a 2010 150 VX. I have found the premiums to be pretty competitive (in Victoria), and have had two claims along the way that were promptly dealt with. They even allowed me to go with the repairer of my choice (which can be a sticking point with AAMI), and the other big bonus is that I have still retained RATING ONE !!

                                cheers, P
