  • Newbie to the forum

    Hi fellas,

Just wanted to say, after stumbling across the forum yesterday, how much I have learnt in reading various posts already. What an awesome website.... I picked up my new 07 Prado GXL D4D end of September and have been dreaming about all the mods I want to do.... I have already got alot of info about the pros and cons of various mods and what your experiences have been, and can't wait to start spending some $ in the coming year, when I work out the best order to fit all the stuff.

Looking forward to participating in the discussions if my knowledge allows (not new to 4WDs, just to Prados, traded in 96 Triton GLS Dual Cab, modified as a tourer......)

    Cheers
    Brett

Welcome Brett - Welcome tp Pradopoint

No doubt that you will find an absolute, mega-load, abundance of information and from some pretty long-toothed 4WDers (No punt intended) some great advice. If you do take the advice, you will need DEEEEEEEEEEEP pockets for sure in the name of fun.

Nice to see more Brisbanites popping up. My new D4D Auto Prado turns up in March - so good luck with yours and I hope to catch up when I get mine.

Ha Speedcomm - I must take a punt here. If you read Brett's post, he mentions that he got rid of his Triton for the better vehicle - The awesome Prado - 1 less Triton than you thought.

D4D-GXL, kind of like an ex wife, he must of loved the Triton at some stage

I Cant get out of it quick enough to drive the Prado ( Older pre 06 Triton seats suck, needs a footy field to turn around )

How do you " quote" would make my post make more sense :?:

Anywho im off subject again

                  Welcome to you Brett,
You said you wanted to know where to start doing your mods.
I will give you one big hint.........
Do the mods that will make the biggest difference straight away. Like tyres, followed by suspension lift. The first inside mod I would look at is a fridge for the touring side of the Prado. You have the D4D so power isnt an issue, so then you could look at bullbar spotties and so on....
But try not to spend all your money on part time mods like winch, snorkel, big muddies, lockers and so on. You need to enjoy the Prado now.
The big stuff isnt the most important, but its the most expensive.
Hope to run in to you at some stage.
                  cheers
                  Les

Yeah I must admit I was quite fond of the Triton, it definitely served its purpose and was a fantastic car for a young bloke who loved camping and fishing (roll swag out in the back of the tray wherever you wish to camp)etc. Now with a wife and a young one I was after a newer truck with a bit more comfort and a more capable truck to fit out for wider touring duties with family included over the coming years........

I thought I would try and attach some photos of the old Triton and the new Prado........ Here goes.....

                    And the new Prado:

                      Brett,

Agree with Les that tyres and suspension are the first things that you need to look at upgrading - BUT........you need to have a good idea of what else you are likely to hang off the front of the vehicle (bullbar, winch, second battery etc) when you choose the front spring rating. Then you still need to decide wether you can live with stiffer suspension until all the extras are added or if you are willing to change the springs again once the extras are added.

                      Leachy.

Yeah thanks fellas for the suggestions, which support the order I was heading. First mods within the next 6 months (done at the same time) will be the suspension HD on front, MD on back (OME with a bullbar, winch and dual batteries eventually in mind), ARB sahara bar (this should hopefully make the HD springs on the front end bearable in the meantime) and IPF driving lights. Tyres will be done when the existing grandcraps run out and replaced with BFG all terrains. Am doing roughly 35ks a year so will probably be very soon :? :? Then who knows what will follow...... Snorkel, fridge, dual batteries, ARB compressor, front and rear lockers, set of drawers, muffler, engine mgmt chip maybe, winch......

Who knows where it will end.....

                          Cheers
