Last time I looked, I needed the transponder chip in my key to get the car started. Listening for a remote dooorlock code ain't gonna help the thief in that area.

As for the door lock - as D4D wrote, they have a rolling code to counter just that thing (copying). I'm basically lazy. If I wanted to get into a car, I'll just break a window. Couldn't be bothered investing in the technology.... A rock will do

What if you put a solenoid in then main cable to the starter motor, then put a hidden switch to activate the solenoid, just like I used to do on my old VH crummydore except that was to earth the coil. Would that work or would it cause issues with the electronics in new cars.

Yeah, and make it so you need a bloody long screwdriver to short it in order to make it start.

My 120 was stolen 2 yrs ago from outside my house . I don't park it there anymore and I'm also conscious as to where I park it when away from home . I had a good chat with a copper from the motor theft squad and he reckons that a camera is a very good deterrent as the thief doesn't want his picture taken . 70% are stolen by amateurs so I agree if you make it more difficult for them they'll go to an easier one .
I've been using a club lock and a wheel clamp at times but I forgot the clamp one time and was lucky that it didn't do any damage when I started to move off . It did show up the week point in it's design though .
It doesn't matter what immobiliser etc that you've got....a tilt tray works every time .
          Cheers Ross

Drop the transfer case into N when you park. Most opportunistic thieves won't know how to get it to move so will give up and move on.
