  • Toyota servicing

I'm about to do it, I've found the Prado I want and am getting all my ducks in a row.

Just one final question burning in the back of my mind. It may be stupid, but I've always felt it's better to ask a stupid question than find out you were simply stupid to not ask.

I'm looking at a brand new GXL, turbo diesel six speed manual from NSW, which I am hoping to have delivered to me in WA next month (already one in the lot waiting for me).

Should I expect problems from my local Toyota service departments, given I didn't give my hard earned to them for the car in the first place?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated...

    G'day Luke

I've never had a drama taking my bus to my local dealership. I bought my Prado from another dealer at the other end of Perth ... even playing him off against my local to get a better price ... which he couldn't match.

I reckon they sell enough of them .... and they know they'll make a fortune off you servicing you car .... that they're not really that fussed.

    My two bob.

    Cheers
    Chippy

I bought mine new from the north side of Sydney and always had it serviced where I live on the south side of Sydney - never been a problem.

I dont think there would be a problem.

Not untill you come out with us the day before a service and it takes them 2hours with the gernie just to see the drain plug..

Dealers make their money from spares (options on new cars) and servicing. They will be over the moon to do your services.

if you value your hard earned dollers.. dont take it to toyota service dept's... they are too expensive.

That's weird Chippy, because I got the exact opposite results from the buy. I bought from your local dealer (and am happy!). My local dealer was a ....... Maybe Jim had the right car in the right colour at the right time and the moons were aligned hehehe

I have had my car serviced by said southern dealer as well as Canberra Toyota (on a travel - and they knew me - from an earlier Ford or Subi or two lol). Still happy

IMHO I would go to any genuine Toyo service department until the warranty expires. From experience (not Toyo) they tend to honour the warranty if you go to the manufacturers place of service. Again - only my experience - YMMV significantly!

When the warranty expires, I say go with who you like or know. Note that most manufacturers can't tell you where to service - there is heaps of options without voiding the warranty.

Also, if you know the service cost (ala this brilliant web site) then you are in control

the whole going to the dealer while under warranty is what they want you to believe... it really has no bearing on warranty issues..

i never went to yota.. but under warranty i still:

                had 3 fuel tanks replaced
front crank seal on the motor replaced

had no issue at all with other people servicing it. As long as the book is filled out, toyota have no way of denying warranty claims (on a stock vehicle)
