Is there a real difference between the 265 65 and the 275 65 in real terms and why did you choose 275?

The 265/70R17 would be higher in fuel than 275/65R17. The weight in the 265/70R17 is further out and so needs more energy to turn it.

Inertia which, relates to the diameter of the tyre, is only a factor when accelerating and decelerating. Drag is directly related to the width of the tyre but increasing 265-275 is a very minor increase.

Tyre deformation is the major factor in fuel consumption, which is why higher pressures result in lower tyre temperatures and better fuel consumption.

I'm not sure which would be more economical, but I doubt that either it would be more than 1-2%.

same price as the 265 when I brought the bridgies and they gabe me another 7mm in clearance.

Was down at our local Toyota Dealer and they had some of the Maxxis AT-980 on display.... They look like a nice tyre except for a couple of things:

1. They don't make a 70's tyre in a 17". Closest is the 275/65/17. I guess not a real big deal as that's what I'm running now....
2. They don't come out in a LT construction. I searched their website and the 15" sizes do but not the 16" or 17". This I would be a bit concerned of as I've currently got the Bridgestone 694 in a LT construction & they've copped a hard life w/o any punchers.... So I was hoping to stick with the LT construction, especially when touring & fully loaded.... The stronger sidewalls come in handy when touring & loaded.....

Is there anybody running these on their Prado that do outback touring ???
