FUTURE NON-D4D Prado? Opinions...

Thanks for this. I am always meticulous about following maintenance schedules. Used to fly aeroplanes (privately).

Get it checked carefully and keep to the maintenance regime posted elsewhere on this site and you will be fine.

D4D is a Toyota thing. Irrespective of what the new one is it will have the D4D badge. Hino have a couple of nice little V6 diesels that just need tweaking.

Ok, I see, so when/if there's a 5 or 6 cylinder diesel, it will be called a d4d?
Why don't they call the petrol a d4d?

Why not Toyota call the V8 diesel in the landcruiser a D4D. Or did you think it was just the 4 cyl 3ltr????

I believe the 4 wedged between double Ds (minds out of the gutter) refers to valves per cylinder and not cylinders.

I always thought D4D stood for Directinjection 4 stroke Diesel... I have been known to be wrong though. Which would mean that if Toyota made a 10 cylinder 4 stroke diesel it would still be a D4D.

I couldn't find anything except this from ToyotaUnZed.

Sorry mate, I'm not in here all day & night.
It might look like it as I don't bother to log out in the iPad.
My prioritys are:
Family & it's a weekend.
Getting ready for Simpson trip.
Organizing to finish the pool this week-(for the family)
Some work, only because that = money.
At times I'm On here too much, but certainly not monitoring my last post responses.
It's purely trips with & meeting like minded Prado owners that I'm interested in here.
That's why I'm Putting some time into the 2014ppgtg.
If I think I've got something to offer I throw my 2 cents worth in, if I think it will help someone or it might be silly/funny.
So apologies for many non replys in advance :-)

D4d, never really thought about it, assumed it was direct 4cyl diesel.
Why on earth would you call other engines the same when it's got a bad name? Dumb.
Why would you bother to say 4 cycle? Even dumber we know that!!!!
Not 2 many 2 stroke engines in cars.
Nor are there rotarys in toyotas.
4 valve? Well that's better, but most new engines are and have been for some time.
But 4 cyl made the most sense.

Maybe it should be Destin 4 Disaster!?

Kz is going well if it lets me down in a big way I would consider 2009 petrol (like 120's), new 150 diesel but feel sick paying so much for possible problems, let's see......

But on a serious note, I'd guess they came up with D4D as some marketing genius decided it would be a catchy little name for it along with creating sort of brand recognition for Toyotas engines after many hours and dollars sitting around a table drinking coffee. little did they know that their biggest selling "D4D" wasn't quite the superstar they wanted it to be. Although that being said, it's not a bad engine, it just has some quirks which then get highlighted by Toyotas refusal to acknowledge them which pisses people off.
But that's just my assumption of course

TMC's biggest issue, from what I can tell is that they brought the D4-D to Toyota internal manufacture/engineering from Hino -

by the way I don't hate d4d's they just make me nervous.
I love the economy & power/torque.
Just have to give them a lot of love & monitor things.
well and keep 15k spare in the bank just incase.......
