  • Should 4WD purchases be taxed at a higher rate?

This stuff gets me very raving mad.

There's a bit of a debate hotting up over at Bigfooty on this title:

I think you can hazard a guess where I hop in.

It was subtle .... but after having a bit of Kernel Sanders at the threads ... I reckon I can guess

To preserve the immortal words of a fellow Pradopointer ..... we are acknowledging the struggling random electrical impulses firing off in the heads of a pile of neanderthal fragwits who were spawned in the shallow end of the gene pool -- during a drought!

I cannot believe some of the absolute tripe that holds their ears apart .... and the fact that they still have not evolved beyond a two-way digestive system (they s#@t from both ends  ).

Statements like .... "all of the safety surveys ..... "
    .... "all 4 wheel drives .... "
.... "they destroy the roads ...."
    .... "can't see around them.... "

are just more proof that we are dealing with a group that wouldn't know a survey if one kicked them in the nuts .... and their use of statistics shows that they never learned to count beyond the number of thumbs on each hand (in most cases this is two .. as it helps with the playing of the banjo).

/ descending from my soapbox now

    Cheers

I can no longer post on these issues when there is no form of selective breeding that would eliminate this sort of selfish and ignorant thinking.

If people are that blind to see the real issue then they do not deserve me or us pointing it out to them as you cannot argue with idiots.

I'm arguing against dumb morons in that forum and wasting my time.

Don't know why I bother, I just get very heated and passionate about the subject.

Time to do some real work.

Here comes the "special licence' argument again. How come I can drive a 13T truck with lights and sirens, but these numb nuts want me to get a licence to drive a vehicle that weighs slightly more than a sedan or station wagon.
As for the saftey argument our other car is a 2 door toyota starlet, and spends more time on the road then the prado. These poor people cant see around 4wd's, try and see around Vans, people movers, loaded utes or trucks. My last two company cars (comadoor ute with canopy & hiace van) had bigger blind spots than the prado. For me 4wd has nothing to do with safety but a 'lifestyle'.
These people need to get out and see how much of this country is completly unaccesible to 2wd's, and when they see how beutiful it is they too will want a 4wd.
But I think I would rather put up with these numb nuts winging than cluging up all the good tracks and camp grounds.

This would have to be the most sexist piece of bullshit I've read in a while.

Quote"The large ones already would attract luxury tax on purchasing.

The easy solution is to make 4WD owners having to hold a special license, which requires them to have completed a 4WD course. There by cutting out the bulk of the (mostly women) people using them to do the shopping and drop the kids off at school, as they can barely reverse the things, let alone be able to pass a course going bush bashing."

Is this idiot saying that women can't drive as well as men. As for reversing I can park the Prado in places I wouldn't even attempt to park our old falcon or the Calais we had. Simply because I can see better.

As for shopping centre carparks, I try to do the right thing by other drivers I park away from busy areas(more to protect my paintwork) and I reverse into my parks so other drivers have an easier view over the front of the prado rather than trying to see around the back of it.

As for doing a 4x4 driving course I have no problems going to do one. It's just a matter of time and money. I was actually talking to a driving instructor the other day about getting my HR license.

Yota - you make a good point. While those dingalings may wish to stick to the blacktop some of us prefer to see and explore more of this wonderful country than we otherwise could get to and see. 20 years ago I would not hesitate to drive as far as I could, put on a back-pack and walk for 3 days to get to a great camping spot or view. Life changes - wife comes along - followed by kids - a job which doesn't permit me to drop everything when I want to go bush. The answer for me was an off-road vehicle for week-end and holiday fun with a very small 4 cylinder for weekly chores.
I have just come back from my first trip to the Duea National Park and had a great time exploring the Merrcumbene Fire Track. It would not have been possible to do without a proper 4x4 and we would otherwise not have had one of the best holidays I can remember.

                          Spot on Yota, unfortunately the world is heading towards a user pays, cover your own backside, litigation proofing, need a licence for everything, grab some more taxes and create another bureaucracy, pain in the a@# for all society. Consider this;

I have completed 3 four wheel drive courses, in two branches of the Australian Armed Services (pauses to inhale ... then continues blowing own trumpet) and have held "special licence's" for three classes of 4x4's, for both on and off road use of military 4x4's.

After all that, I wouldn't consider myself to be any better or worse a 4x4 driver on the road than the average 4x4 driver ( hey, just ask my good lady! ). Especially after a few years (since doing said courses) have past.

I think it all comes down to common sense and driving courtesy no matter what size shape or religious denomination your car is!

Happy and safe 4x4 driving to all,

"Inner city owners of 4WD almost always have "tickets on themselves". The taxation proposal would be a great way of rattling their cage".

Aha... the real agenda behind it all - jealousy.

If we're going to ban things that may cause people to have "tickets on themselves", then watch out BMW owners, Mercedes- Benz owners, Porsche owners... etc etc...

Actually, I know a few smart-arse people who live in big houses and are wealthy - so if big houses and wealth cause people to have "tickets on themselves", then why not "rattle their cage" too?
