Anyway it's for my wife's boss his 200 is stranded at cooma as the water trap light come on so he pulled over undid the trap thingy under the fuel filter, jumped back in and won't start just turns over. He filled it up in Sydney prior to leaving to drive to cooma. It's turbo diesel.... Cheers Steve

I'm certainly no expert but sounds like air has got in the fuel system?. Again I'm no expert though.Steve

First off how much water, if there was a lot then your going to have to
drain the tank and flush the system, if water has gotten into the common
rail you have problems.
If there was a only a small amount, drain water make sure drain is closed then prime the system using the primer pump on the fuel filter, keep pressing till the button goes hard.
Cheers

He said buggar all come out of the bowl. But he said he didn't pump/prime it up just turned the key. He said he read the book and nothing in there about priming so he didn't do it. He's back here in Sydney at the moment and the cruiser went to a local work shop in cooma. He stopped the vehicle the moment the light come on for the water trap. He was wondering was it due to condensation in the tank ?? Was -1 the night before. His insurance told him he should have used alpine diesel. Told him gets -1 here some times in Penrith and we don't have it here.... Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. No mods yet

Alpine diesel , your not really going to need around cooma , and shouldn't have anything to do with water in your filters . Some Diesel engines do self prime , you will have to RTFM or take it to a mechanic . This guy should RTFM ! If the car was running fine b4 he drained the water off and now doesn't run then its a good chance it needs to be primed .03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

Just a follow up, turned out to be the filter, they replaced fuel filter primed her up and fired up straight away. They haven't said anything about draining tank but he is going to then replace filter again when he gets it back home here in Sydney....cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. No mods yet

Good result , he caught it early , if you were outback and without a spare filter , just empty it out and go again . Cheers03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

good to hear it's now ok, we have horrible diesel in mongolia. if the filter is stuffed and temp drops to minus, water in the filter will freeze and total lack of fuel in engine, so normal seasonal service always include flushing the bank and change of filter. all this is not a good news for injector.
