There is a big difference between breaking a rule and operating within the spirit of the system.

If you want to keep giving rep to the same few mates over and over again because you like what they post then that's fine, but you have to understand that a lot of people will not agree with that, therefore giving you negative rep, then you come on line and complain about getting that negative rep!

Interestingly it has been my observation that I am much more likely to receive positive rep for posting something with a negative connotation, Ie, I think xyz product rubbish, yet I rarely or never get positive rep for pointing someone in the direction of good info, or helping a newbie. I'm not saying whether that is right or wrong, it's just an observation.

    Cheers Andrew

Let me see if I understand your post Andrew. Are you saying it's OK to give negative rep because you think someone has too much positive rep?

Surely the system's intent is for neg rep to apply purely to the contents of the post you are marking it against?

So the rep point should go against each post or thread? Not as a total for the person.

            SOL.

Definitely not how I interpreted the rep points system. Liking your mates posts on non-Prado threads shouldn't get you a big rep points!!

Rep should be used to show someones contribution to the forum. High post counts aren't a true reflection of input. Getting 1000+ posts in campfire just means you like to use PP as a chat room. Newbies should be able to look at rep points to see how much positive input someone has into the forum. Just my 2c anyway.

This thread was about 'editing posts'. Yet again, another thread has been completely derailed...

Yes it has, and on that note as it was pretty well answered in post 7, this thread is closed.

Post editing is now reinstated to members.

As with deleting posts we can also now recover edited posts as well, this alleviates the issue of forum damage by malicious deletion or editing of posts.
