So i was sitting at a set of lights today in my 4 week old prado altitude and an AusGrid truck reversed into me because he figured he was to far into the intersection. Lucky only the front bar is damaged.. Side quarter panels and bonnet/grill all ok.

Maybe you could do a deal with the insurance co and save yourself some dollars at the same time...?2009 White KDJ120R Manual fitted out for family camping and touring - See my Rig Build at http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27887-Smithy-s-Rig-Build

Who is doing the repair? If they can source and fit an ARB bar it is easier to "do a deal" with them and leave the insurer out of it. If the Insurance Company is already paying the repairer to fix the damage (say $1500), and the bar is say $2,500 - The repairer lodges the quotes to fix back to standard as per normal to the insurer, who in turn pays the agreed amount and then you pay the difference to the repairer and drive away with a discounted bar. All legit. I did this with my last car, I was thinking of fitting an ARB rear step towbar to my ute. I got rear ended (minor) the repairer quoted to fix back to standard and deducted this amount from the cost of the rear bar. I drove away with a rear bar for $450. Believe me, if you try and involve the insurer it will just get messy.

I agree with "the Alberto" I did a deal with my repairer and paid an extra $500 for the bar instead of a bumper - a bargain. I do have a good relationship with him though as he does a lot of work for our company.Greg - 08 D4D Prado,

"The Alberto" is right.
Some dill run into the back of my rig recently (second time in 4 years, different drivers).
Instead of replacing it with the plastic one I worked it our with the repairer and had an MCC wheel carrier purchased instead (no arms).
I payed the difference which was much less than buying it later.
