  • Road Tyres?

I'm going to buy a second set of wheels for my 2005 VX.

Whats a good brand of road tyres for general commuting, etc?

(Not looking to start an argument about tyres, just after half decent road rubber at a reasonable price)

    Gday Beach

    I bought 5 x 265/65/17 Hankook DynaPro HP

They "are" very sticky in the wet and also very quiet tyre on the road!

    I got all 5 x with wheel alignment/fitted & balanced for $1,100

I made it clear when i was looking for good road tyre that i wasn't interested in a off-road or high K's tyre but they had to be very sticky in the wet and quiet! ... And they are!

I can not tell you how they are wearing as they have only done about 2,000km and i am very happy with them!

    Cheers

That's an A/T tyre, the OP wants road tyres. They are pretty quiet on road though, I'm happy with mine.

As much as they are mocked here on PP the Dunlop Grandtrek AT22 seems OK for predominantly bitumen use and can venture off the bitumen on occasion although they're not up to the rough stuff.

The actual question was, good brand of road tyres for general commuting, hence the D697 and yes I know they're technically an A/T but they're also cheap which was the other criteria.

If you want a good tyre at a good price for bitumen work, look for someone removing brand new grandteks to upgrade their tyres. I sold mine to a PP member for $150 a pop I reckon, they had only done 300kms.

Chuck an add in the wanted section, you never know your luck inthe big city.

            Cheers Andrew

Glad to see we are in agreement on that point.

Most places around here are quoting ~$420 per corner which isn't exactly cheap. I thought I was doing well to get one for $370 to replace my Grandtrek spare (I have the 265/60/R18 size).

2005 VX would have 17" wheels I think? I paid $280 a corner for 697s cheap in my book.

Gee us 18" owners get ripped off then, an extra $90 or even $140 for an extra inch of rubber.

As AJ said you should be able to pick up a set of GrandTreks cheap, and for on road use they are a pretty good tyre, mine are still going strong after 58,000kms

                      Cheers Matt

Actually an inch less rubber so yes - ripped off.

I recently got a set of new 265/70/16 Hero Dynastorm ATs for the street @ $120 ea. They look to be a decent tyre with good tread depth and a tread wear of 480 so they should last pretty well. I don't know what other sizes they come in though.

                              Cheers, Ben.
