  • Reputation points dissapear ?????????

    Hi all,

I was new to this forum only last year, now I thought being a lurker sucked, & having bugger all rep points looked crap too.
So, guess what? When someone is looking for help I help them & have received a lot of rep points for doing so.
Now there might have been less than 5 out of 50 points that were silly, but seriously I think at least 70% have been removed in the correction.
Now I'm not entirely sure why the rep point system is there, but if your going to keep it be fair, let people leave the rep points.

Eg; today I received a good rep point & many more were taken away.

Put it back how it was or get rid of the system completely!

Who cares , this reputation system means bugger all in the scheme of things, if you are a regular on PP you will know who is worth reading and who is full of it , or who you don't like . Or whether their posts are worth reading. I put the reputation system in the same category as twitter or Facebook , who gives a #*%¥ . Oh please don't cyber bully me or unfriend me . I'm not having a go at you personally #### just expressing an opinion , cheers

A pm to a mod would be better here, as a large number of members current and previous have been misusing the system, some will notice points differences.
There has been widespread misuse of the system in the past in very obvious efforts to raise people's reputation levels falsely.

Oh whilst we are at it, as some of you have dual log ins in regards to the 2014 gtg, it may be best to not give rep from that account in the future, as it looks like your giving it to yourself to the admins and mods that check it.

I'd suggest taking a breath and thinking right about now.

Am I not allowed to discuss this ?

If it makes you feel better, just lock it up, edit it, or delete it all.
I will go back to trying to ignor the way you conduct yourself.

Can someone please explain the rules on giving rep points please?

I've looked through the forum rules and there is no mention of them

Piggy please explain to everyone where in the rules it states how the rep system is to be used as I have tried and can not find it. I too believe that points have been unfairly removed and my request via PM for proof of the alleged invalid points has not been responded to.

They might mean nothing to some but as it is currently the system is a mockery so why have it at all?

This is how the reputation system works:
                      • Register Date Factor
The number of reputation points that a user is able to give or take is dependant on several factors, with the length they have been registered as one of them. A user's power is first initialized at 1 and then this factor and the factors that follow are used to increase it. For example if you set this to 365, every 365 days that the user has been a member of your forum, they would gain one point. So if they have been a member for five years, they would gain 5 points of power for a total of 6.
                      • Post Count Factor
The amount of posts that a user has can also affect their reputation power. Set this to number of posts that you want to award one point for. For example, set this to 50 and for a user with 500 posts, they would gain 10 points of power.
                      • Reputation Point Factor
The users current reputation score can also affect their reputation power. Set this to 100 and a user with a reputation of 1000 would gain 10 points of reputation power. If you set any of the power factors to 0, that will effectively remove that factor from having an effect on the user's reputation power.
                      • Minimum Post Count
If the reputation system is enabled, anyone will be able to rate a post but only users with a post count above the level you set here will be able to actually give points or take points from another user.
                      • Minimum Reputation Count
As with the post count above, a user must have a reputation above this level to be able to give or take points from another user's score.

Thanks Andrew but it doesn't say that a member is not allowed to allocate points to whomever they deem worthy.

Thanks Andrew but that only shows how many points you can give - it makes no mention of why!

It is predominantly used in forums to thank people for a useful post by giving positive rep points. In the case of the Pradopoint forum, it would be given for Prado related material.

Fair enough, but without any rules how can anyone say it has been abused?

It seems to me the system just causes angst and should be switched off completely.
