  • Radio locked out.

Hi there. Does anyone know how to unlock a radio displaying SEC on a 2003 Prado.
I had the need to disconnect my battery last week and the radio now needs to have a PIN entered to unlock it. I have contacted the dealer that the vehicle was purchased from when new and he suggested their street number (wrong). He then suggested the last 3 digits if the VIN, (wrong).
After also trying 000, 111 etc I am now up to try number 7. The dealer now suggests I bring it in for them to do it and I am sure they will charge me accordingly.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    See here for more info

Basically, if you don't know the pin, you will have to take it to the dealer.

        Hi Geppy,

If you can get the contact details of the previous owner, they should tell you the pin

        Cheers

Stupid question maybe ?? Chech the service book and log books. Maybe it has be written down some where by previous owner, even over on the back page of both books, inside front cover etc. when you get it cleared if you can't find the number then don't bother putting another one in the you won't have to worry next time. Anybody that breaks into a Prado to steal the cd/ radio is pretty hard up. Not insulting you here as your 03 would be the same as my 05.. There going for all the GPS stuff these days ..... Cheers Steve

            Steve,
Thanks, yes I did check all those. I actually bought the car from my father who bought it new. He has never had to use it. Think I will pull it out and get to a dealer.

Interesting Geppy, I need to disconnect the battery in wifes car to try and reset the remote for central locking, we have never put a code in the radio but I'm a bit concerned now after reading your post wether I will have the same problem once I disconnect it. I will ring Toyota tomorrow and see if there is any way of telling wether the radio has been coded or not before I disconnect the battery (we bought the car new and I have definitely not put a code in).....Some reason the bloody button on remote for the central has stopped working. I put a new battery in just to see but the old battery wasn't that old anyway....Cheers Steve

I'm don't know about all models, but with the 90 if the symbol of a key on the radio flashes every couple of seconds when the car is switched off, then the security is activated. I'm 90% certain the key doesn't flash if the security code hasn't been set

                Cheers

Just checked both cars John, my prado and wifes yaris (sedan) and there is a little symbol of a key just above the CD insert, neither of these are flashing on either car. I know the prado doesn't have one as I have had the radio out before but not the wifes car. Hopefully Ill be write when disconnecting the wifes battery....Cheers Steve

My Prado radio security was not activated, which was lucky as I had disconnected the radio and moved it into my Corolla. It seems to me that if no one activates the security from new then you should be OK. i.e. no little flashing key symbol on the radio.

I activated it once I moved the radio, and wrote it down, hehe.
