Road rules - solid yellow lines

Speaking of road rules, who else in NSW didn't know about this change?

A National Road Rule allowing yellow lines to replace No Stopping signs was adopted in New South Wales last year, and since then motorists have been getting fined for a road rule they probably weren’t even aware of.

NSW Road rules are just rough guides (well that's how it appears watching others drive in Sydney) especially where you can STOP! Don't mention the round-about rules, no one cares about these either.

Did you know you cant park in the same street twice with in 24 hours within two parking signs ?? I didn’t know and got booked for it. I was parked in a street in Penrith, knowing my time was running out I then went back and moved it up the street further between another two parking signs and when I come out there she was giving me a ticket I said what you doing I have only been here for 15 minutes (1/2 hour zone) she said you cant just come and move from that parking area to this one in the same street in 24hrs. I even made sure there were no lines on my tyres when I moved it, must have been bloody watching me. I thought she was kidding till I refused to pay the ticket, then was shown the rule……..Cheers Steve

(2) For subrule (1), a driver parks continuously on a length of road, or in an area, to which a permissive parking sign applies, from the time when the driver parks on the length of road, or in the area, until the driver, or another driver, moves the vehicle off the length of road, or out of the area, to which the permissive parking sign applies.

Mate was a few years ago. Going to see if I can find any thing else except what you have indicated. I know I had to pay the fine or I wouldn't have been able to pay my rego. I was furious as I even remember saying to her where on the sign does it indicate this within a 24 hr period. She said it didn't need to. I definitely remember seeing it as the wife was reading it also.......will do some searching of the rules....Cheers Steve

Still searching, maybe its been changed since then or I got screwed and miss understood what I read and paid some thing I didn't need to ?? but I didn't know this one ...""Before moving from a stationary position at the side of the road or a median strip parking area, you must signal for at least five seconds, check mirrors and blind spots."" (was referring to the 5 seconds) wonder how many couriers sit there and count to five ??? if its clear to go and no one or no vehicles are around then why would you have to wait 5 seconds ??? I knew about this but only because I learnt to drive in the UK where these are used everywhere. Sneaky not to tell people though. I get confused over the differences though.

I am also used to having 40/70mph dual carriageways not 40kmh sometimes then 50/60/70/80/100/110 whoever they feel like it dual carriageways

We've had that rule for many years in Qld. They're right, not everyone knows about the rule, which is why i think it's important to re-sit the licence exam every 5 years. Most people have poor knowledge of the road rules.

The sneaky little ****ers hide in shop doorways and other locations in the Sutherland Shire, probably do the same out your way.

Do you remember where the rule was from when she showed you (which Act of Parliament/Set of Rules and Regulations) or was it just a quick flash of something written down?

We might be known as the wild west but even here in Kalgoorlie-Boulder the City Council has hired the services of a private company in a car with special cameras that cruises the streets and car parks, including Woolies and Coles (yes, we are semi civilized). The parking limit is generally 2 hours and you can't move your car to a different spot to avoid infringement.

Yowie for memory it was on the RTA site. Just been searching but can't find it. Either way I had to pay it or they wouldn't renew my rego/license.... Looked in my files thought I may have kept it but looks like I have got rid of it. It was a few years ago... Can't remember what was even on the ticket.... Cheers Steve

Got the better of me now. Next time I see one of those people I'm going to ask if that law still exist and on what web site would I find the rule.... May even get the wife to keep her eye out and ask as she sees them daily walking past her shop front in Penrith ....Cheers Steve
