So I went to a large baby store today, only to be told it's maybe another 12 months off. Fark were a backward country.
Apparently when it is available the tether strap needs to be used also.
Kinda defeats the simplicity of the operation.

Yes you need a top tether and can only be used on certain types of child restraint. BUT they are telling you absolute porkies about availability. Its been part of Australian Standards since 7 June 2013.
This new version of the Australian Standard, AS/NZS 1754:2013 Child restraint systems for use in motor vehicles, was published on June 7 and included the following changes:

      Quote: AS/NZS 1754:2013 page 2:

"Major revisions in this edition of AS/NZS 1754 include:
      (a) Introduction of requirements for a lower anchorage attachment system for restraining the child restraints to the vehicle instead of using the seatbelt. This system was developed by the ISO committee ISO/TC 22/SC 12/WG 1 and is known as ISOFIX in Europe and Japan, LATCH in USA and UAS in Canada. The system features vehicle ISOFIX low anchorages and either rigid or flexible lower attachment connectors on the child restraints. This Standard specifies the requirements for the lower attachment connectors for Type A, Type B, Type D and combinations for these child designations. The vehicle ISOFIX low anchorages are not seen as being suitable for restraints for older occupants due to possible insufficient strength. ISOFIX low anchorages may not be strong enough in all vehicles to withstand the loads of a Type G (new) child restraint. Booster seats with lower attachment connectors may have a greater propensity for the occupant to submarine. Combination of types B and E, and B and F are considered inappropriate as users may use the lower attachment connector in the child restraint in the booster seat mode. This new system for securing the child restraint to the vehicle continues to require the use of top tether straps or upper anchorage straps that have been required for child restraints since the requirements were first establish in AS 1754—1975. "

      Specifically:
      3.5 ANCHORING AND ATTACHMENT SYSTEM
      3.5.1 Provision of anchoring system
Child restraints shall comply with the following:
      (a) Child restraints shall have the provision to be anchored to the vehicle using the seatbelt and, if required, by Item (e), a top tether strap.
Additional and optional lower anchorage attachments shall anchor the child restraint to the vehicles fitted with ISOFIX low anchorages. These lower anchorages shall only be used on Types A1, A2, A4, B, D, A1 and B, A2 and B, A4 and B

Isofix is a good system, used it when I lived in Canada. The main difference between Aus and most other places where isofix is used is that Australian regs still require a top tether, this is not mandatory in North America at least.

i suspect the delay may not be a regulatory one, but simply the availability of Australian Standard compliant seats that have Isofix AND a top tether.

had the same experience, the pros are the worst. Both the Prado and Liberty have the ratchet system and the thing don`t move when its in, that`s why I am just as happy with the standard seat over the isofix. But that doesn`t apply to everyone and every car.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

My work utes a navara. Its a royal pain in the freckle to remove 2 seats, and replace. It's a 30 minute job.
I need to do this 4 times a week at least.
In my prado there ratchet down tight as. My son is 5 and 30 kilos so I need to move him into a booster. The current booster just use the lap sash to hold him in, firkin useless!!;! He could slide right out!!!!

And ISO fix mounted booster with appropriate harness would be much safer. I'll keep searching for the answers.
