  • For those running extended sway bar links - all models.

For those of you running OEM style Ebay "Extended" sway bar links you might want to take a closer look at them if you've had them on for awhile.

The rubber boot on the ball joint end are very poor quality. I have had mine on for 6 months and they are perished, and a friends are also the same at 7 months old.

By perished I mean completely cracked through and allowing water and dirt in.

The fix with out buying new ones? The original Toyota boots fit, lucky I still had mine (mind you in the bin in the shed, lucky I don't empty it often)

Here you can see the Toyota one VS the aftermarket (slit in two) one. Sizes are close enough to use the Toyota boot on the extended link. Use the aftermarket ones spring clip, it's much easier to get on.

I had my factory ones modified but bent them, I went aftermarket for a quick fix and they are a larger diameter also.
Now I've fitted the original Toyota boots as a quick fix again so all good for now.

Just don't have time for little projects these days.

          Hey,

Does anyone have an opinion on these? They have greasable rose joints and are fully adjustable.

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/120-150-S...item54034c168e

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-Rear-H-...item1e8af9542e

They look identical to the Superior Engineering links, but much cheaper.

          http://www.superiorengineering.com.a...oducts_id=8173

Are the ebay ones cheap knock offs of the Superior ones and using cheaper materials, or are they all the same??

Neither of those appear to have any protection on the joint itself. On my race car all the rose joints have these on them and it does not see sand
            http://pics.driftworks.com/media/cat...122product.jpg
I would have thought anything which does not have this level of protection(needs grease as well) would have a life expectancy of about 5 minutes in the bush/or beach?

              Hey Scruffy,

I've also heard these rose joints can be very clunky and noisy. I'm with you 100% on them not lasting long in the bush, anybody running these experiencing problems such as noise and dirt/dust getting into the joints?

Aren't there extended links that have a normal ball joint with a boot around it??

Might have to do the AJ120 trick!

                Hi Mark,
Only worn out ones! Rose joints are fine if protected/maintained but cannot believe these would be sold without boots

I'm also not sure if the type of boot you suggested will fit over the joint.

I think the bolt is M12 x 50mm long, so you'd need this boot...

                  http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sealing-B...item2590e7fc21

It seems unlikely the big rose joint will slip through such a small hole without stretching or tearing the boot?

Any suggestions for a better boot??

                    Digging up an old thread.

So the superior engineering ones seem adjustable from the pics I've seen, being extremely OCD about this sort of stuff what's the best/most accurate way to adjust these? To level the sway bar as horizontal as possible?

Thanks Mark, so I understand links longer by 30mm or slightly less than standard. If that's the case what is the standard length as I don't have them anymore or what's the overall length on your links?
