Hi all, after much reading about offsets and not being able to reduce your track would 150 series alloys fit a 120 series gx? Tyre size is the same 265x65x17. I have a 2006 GX with steel white speedy rims, not sure about offsets. I would prefer to swap to GXL alloy rims or 150 series if they fit. I have read that 120 series rims will not fit the 150's. I have also been quoted a price of $2500 for 5 GXL rims with Grandtreks on from a wrecker in Perth, bit pricey i thought. Thanks

Do you have flares on your GX? Pre update Toyota made a 120 GX Limited which had the wider steel wheels and flares. If not then the 120 GXL+ wheels will stick out past the guards. Pretty much the tread is in line with the guard and the sidewall protrudes. Lots of people have done this and not had any problems. 150 wheels are a legal fitment with respect to track but will stick out another 5mm which may well get you noticed. My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

I do not have flares but would consider them if it looked too obvious. The 150 series wheels i was looking at were the 2014 update alloys with new Grandtrek AT's on them. I know all about the troubles most have had with Grandtreks and although these are new they would not be much value if they only lasted to 30,000k's. There are some 120 wheels on ebay and i think i will go down that path, although they are on the east coast i have been quoted $220 freight for 4 wheels. I could even hunt around a few wreckers as i think $2500 for 5 wheels and second hand tyres is way too much. The guy selling the 150 series wheels wanted 1950 but at least they were new. No hurry so i will keep looking, thanks for replies.

Unless you have to have alloys look at the 120 GX update steel wheels. Same size as the GXL alloys and truth be told not much heavier. Dealers were selling these for $120 each or thereabouts when the 150 was released. Another option is the Phoenix alloys that were an option on the 120s. I bought these when I bought my 120 and they were $300 each at the time though the dealer did better and I bought five for $1,000. You may find some at a dealer for a decent price. My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

VXWesty, i think your 18 inch wheels would be too big, thanks anyway.
A few things on my list so far, tinting, seat covers, wheels and tyres and i am considering taking off the rear and front black bumpers and painting them in the metalic gold body colour, might play around with MS paint 1st.

Just thought i would update which way i went with rims and tyres for my 06 GX. It has 265x70x17 tyres on white rims(16x8) and they stick out a bit from the body. I would consider flexi flares but i will take the slight risk for now, and the tyre placard inside the door gives 265x65x17 as an option. I ended up getting 4 GXL alloy rims with 697 Dueller tyres on ebay from a wrecker for $1200. I have noticed the 70 profile tyres throw out the speedo a bit but i think the small clearance advantage is worth it. It will be interesting to see how the 265/65 Bridgestones drive on and off road. Coming from a 90 series with narrow 225 tyres i am very happy with the 120 on the beach. I have not put it into 4wd or let my tyres down and it cruises over soft sand. I think the 65 profile tyres will correct my speedo and all i have to do now is stop the console lid from rattling, and sell the rims.

The Prado is a constant 4wd so you can't put it into 4wd. The factory speedo reads almost 6km/hr faster than you are actually travelling when using 65 profile tyres. The 70 series makes the speedo spot on. There may be some discrepancy if you don't have ABS as the non ABS reads the speed from the gearbox and the ABS equipped from wheels.I have verified this with on-board Falcon radar. You can't trust the tom tom speed because it's always averaging from hundreds of kilometres away in space. The rattle in the console lid is the inner tissue box carrier. I use it to store some chux wipes for wiping my hands. No more rattle.Dave

The pre 06 Prados speedometer was pretty accurate at 100 with standard tyres 265/65 but after the update mine read about 5 fast, indicate 100 do 95 ish. With the 150 I have put 275/65s on and the speedo is pretty much spot on. Dave can you tell my son about the GPS speed reading? He won't listen to me, I know nothing obviously! My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

Our agency has GPS trackers in the cars. They tell us it is for "safety" and not to monitor speed of the cars. The GPS works through the radio systems and plots to computer at base. They once clocked a divvy van at 250km/hr. Another was doing 90 heading across the water in Princess Royal Harbour in Albany. Another put the car 15km or so out in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Perth. They can be useful but you can't rely on the speed figures with any certainty. The Falcon HR radar is accurate to + or - 1km/hr. And the GPS wouldn't stand up in court unless you can prove it is approved by the ANZ standards authority having been tested by secret men in white lab coats.Dave
