I recently acquired a used Prado, and I have 2 keys. The master (service) key and a duct taped remote central locking key that has the innards still in it, but has a dead battery. I would like to have 2 working keys for the remote central locking and immobiliser, so I plan on taking the taped one to Mr. Minute to swap the casing and the battery out and to get the blank cut. However, with the 2nd key, what are my options?
1) Toyota replacement - I can go to Toyota and get a new key which will be perfect but cost around $300 - $400.
2) eBay blank - Buy an eBay blank that has a remote transmitter inside it so that I can the carry out a series of activities in the car to instruct it to acknowledge the new key, but how does this work with the immobiliser? Is this even an option if I want to get both the immobiliser and the remote central locking working on the new key?
Are there any other options I have missed? If I have to bite the bullet and get Toyota to do it, so be it, but that would be my last port of call.
Thanks!
