  • Battery Failure

My Partners car died the other day.I received a call after she had gone to work that her car would not start, there was no power.I went to the rescue to find that there was no power after turning the key.My first thought was a dead battery. After putting the jumper leads on the Aurion started. So I left it running for around half an hour.Stopped it and again no power.
So jumped it again and got it home. When home I got the multi meter onto the alternator and this was sending 13.5 volts to the battery. So I pulled of the terminals to find that the Earth connection had acid build up inside the lug.So put this into some Bicarbonate soda mix and soaked it for a few minutes. Then wire brushed it clean.Stuck it back on the terminal, and the car started first time.
    Electrics can be so temperamental.

Are you sure that the battery is not about to die? This is often the first (only?) Sign of impending death of a battery.

Hope you got some Brownie Points for that Heroic recovery Big Trev.
Did the terminal have a Cover/Boot over it? This is said to cause a build up of gases under the cover and accelerate corrosion also.
      Cheers

Well, if the car was serviced at Toyota, and they do what my dealer does, spray that blue stuff and hide the corroded terminals underneath. They can't even be bothered to pour some boiling water on top to remove the fluffy build-up.

Bushbasher!i do my own servicing.Took my Prado to and Adelaide Toyota dealer once, when I picked it up after they told me that they have fixed the problem. The same problem was not fixed and they caused another. My UHF aerial was in Two pieces.Cost them more than they charged me.Also the terminal is clear no cover.
