Do the Iridium sat phones, such as the 9505 run on the prepaid Telstra SIM cards ?
Have done a few searches, but still can't find if the pre paids work.

I ran one for quite a while on a $10 per month post paid plan. Worked a treat.

Thanks again, I will be looking into what post paids I can get, or if I'm better off hiring a phone (did this last time for our Simo trip, not expecting to need a sat phone ever again, but 12 months later I'm off again).Comment

I have an iridium sat phone.
Tried the Telstra sim but it would not work. My old pre paid SIM card used to cost $70 for a recharge which gave 100 minutes talk time and lasted for 24 months.
Last time I took the phone away I was disgusted to find that my sim was out of date. Emailed my sat phone provider to re charge it only to discover that a sim with similar specs would cost more than what I bought the phone for. I lent my phone to a friend for his Simpson trip and bought a 40 day sim with 50 minutes of talk time for $120 . Wow, have prices gone up! The new sim is re- chargeable and retains its number .
My mate owns a camp store . We are going to set it up for rent cause it is now way too expensive to keep a current sim in it.150 Vx D4D, Deluxe Arb bar, winch, Hayman Reece Towbar, UBP, P3 Tekonsha, 'n stuff.
"When cooking on a camp fire it must be cool enough to cook on so it needs to burn down to coals, at least in parts. It is customary to drink beer while waiting for the fire to cool down.

A normal telstra post-paid sim will work, it does not have to have satellite minutes attached to it.
