From what I was told - "Yes" you can. PM Gumboot and he hopefully will be able to give the heads up on the details......
Rob,
You need a "Post Paid" Telstra Service with International roaming enabled.
Cheers

Thanks again, I will be looking into what post paids I can get, or if I'm better off hiring a phone (did this last time for our Simo trip, not expecting to need a sat phone ever again, but 12 months later I'm off again).
I have an iridium sat phone.
Tried the Telstra sim but it would not work. My old pre paid SIM card used to cost $70 for a recharge which gave 100 minutes talk time and lasted for 24 months.
Last time I took the phone away I was disgusted to find that my sim was out of date. Emailed my sat phone provider to re charge it only to discover that a sim with similar specs would cost more than what I bought the phone for. I lent my phone to a friend for his Simpson trip and bought a 40 day sim with 50 minutes of talk time for $120 . Wow, have prices gone up! The new sim is re- chargeable and retains its number .
My mate owns a camp store . We are going to set it up for rent cause it is now way too expensive to keep a current sim in it.
150 Vx D4D, Deluxe Arb bar, winch, Hayman Reece Towbar, UBP, P3 Tekonsha, 'n stuff.

I recommend starting with a very big fire"-Vince.
