Condamine Gorge

Anyone done the Condamine Gorge trip lately from the DWISEQ Book? say in the last couple of weeks?

thinking of heading down there with a mate tomorrow but wondering how deep the crossings are likely to be for two non snorkled cars!

edit: changed the track, get the condomine and boarder ranges ones confused!

long story... we had big plans, out to somerset, then down to Boonah to start the trip, was probably a bit ambitious, 500k’s all up with around 50 offroad, all wanting to get back home by 4 to partake in the “wet weekend” and wash the car with the hose..... Wife, baby and myself in my car, mate and wife in other.

The mate I went with has a cherokee, poor bugger has had sooooo many problems with it, all warranty fixes but still a pain in the backside. I could go into bagging Jeeps but at the end of the day you could get a lemon anywhere.

we wanted to go check out Somerset first, hasn't been at 80% for many many moons so we headed out through The Gap and started heading up the hills, Jeep in front, it has always thrown out a puff of smoke when he puts the boot in and i got covered in a big cloud so i'm on the CB taking the piss out of him aksing him to pull over and let me take the lead so i don’t choke, next minute the indicator is on, me thinking, nice, he’s letting me pass, then the hazards come on.... blown turbo pipe, big split in it and no power once you hit turbo range.. (this same pipe "popped off” about a year ago when his wife was driving).

So we turned it around and limped back down the servo at the bottom of the hill and parked it up for the day, climbed into the Prado, went out to Somerset for lunch and then did a loop around the dam through Kilcoy, Woodford, Dayboro, Samford and back to The Gap to spend the next hour and a half waiting for a tow truck. Jeep assist, to their credit, do a great job, tow and fix the car, and pay for a cab home (though I hung around to give them a list).

And just to top it all off, when we met up at Maccas for breaky before hitting the road, I gave him a pradopoint sticker and said “you know you want to change”

We may have another convert soon!

Yep, i am feeling his pain, i owned a Jeep Cherokee before the prado, after that many warranty issues i thought it wise to off load it before it ran out of warranty and mine was a petrol, i have heard of heaps of blown turbo pipes onn the cherokkee's. Best thing i ever did was sell that car, chalked it up as a learning experience. I forgot, if he does sell it make sure he is sitting down when he finds out the resale value OUCH!!!!!!

I haven't been up into the gorge for about a month. Last time I tried the water was still in flood and about 5m deep !!

The whole area including mt barney, tooloom and mt lindesay is still very wet. Other tracks in the area have had sustained damage (washouts and 1m+ deep holes) or have debri (big trees) still across them. You will need to walk all the crossings to make sure its still OK.

I would not venture to far without mud tires, a winch, chainsaw and shovel. Most of the catchment is still fully charged so you need to be careful you don't get stuck up there if it rains heavily.

I should be going through there in the next couple of weeks in a Landcruiser ute. I'll let you know then.
