  • Towing with New Vehicle

My new Prado is now with the dealer hence potentially could pick up next friday, if I do it will have about 40km on the clock and I would be hooking up the camper and heading away for the long weekend. My question is towing over a ton of camper on a brand new engine is that a good thing or not. I'm thinking of delaying pick up until the following week, what are your thoughts
    thanks

I'm no expert but I would not be towing with a brand new vehicle. I'd wait until at least 5000klms

I picked up mine last Friday. During the pre-delivery discussion, the sales consultant explicitly mentioned that I should not do any towing for a few thousand kms. He may have mentioned 5K, but since I won't be towing for a while anyway, I wasn't paying such close attention to the specifics.

Generally speaking, you should take it easy on the engine until the 1000k service is done. After that you should be good to go.

        Cheers,

What does the owners manual recommend?

It is not just the engine you need to "bed in" it is the entire driveline. Gears and clutches/converters need to wear in also.

Thanks kind of thought it would be best to wait, going to be a buggar though means another 3 days till I can pick it up, oh well have been waiting since late Oct. Will only give me 2 weeks to put some decent ks on it as we want to go camping at easter as well.....
