  • Discount Fuel Buying

    G'day Folks,

Just came across this from another site, (and have no affiliation with them) and anything that helps me purchase cheaper fuel.... I'm all for.

    https://www.onebigswitch.com.au/camp...witch/lead/new

It's basically a campaign to reach the target for members, and one achieved the organisers will approach the fuel retailers and negotiate for it's members to receive a discount on fuel.

Anyways..... check it out yourself and you decide.

    Cheers
    Tokhi

Sorry, we live in regional WA where you have no discount and no choice.

Thanks Tokhi. Just ordered 3 x $50 cards, giving me $159 of fuel (Diesel). 5.5 cpl discount is not that great, but I often fill up at BP anyway so it is better than nothing. Hopefully many will come on board and teach Shell/Caltex a lesson.

I received the offer as I was registered but will not be taking it up.
Some of the reasons and these are in no order of priority

Only one Card per transaction is allowed

If your purchase(s) are greater than the balance remaining on the Card, you will be liable for the payment in cash of any excess purchase amount

The Card cannot be reloaded and is not redeemable for cash

Due to the success of the campaign and expected high demand, your card could take up to four weeks to arrive.
Only when the full amount of the card has been used will you enjoy the 5.66% discount.

Its a pity they don't have a $150 card rather than the options of $50 or $500.
This would fit in more with my buying pattern , and to have to wait possibly 4 weeks is not attractive to me.

It's actually 5.66% which equates to about 9 cents per litre at $1.60 typical diesel price.

Frustrating one needs to buy up front, but it's still 9cents from BP if that is important to you, which isn't too bad. Considering the cards valid 12 months.

I did some sums after I received this "amazing offer".

I worked out I'm "saving" about $20.00 per fill (180 litres) at $1.60.

Of course the reality is you're just committed to buying from a particular vendor. At best you may end up spending less. Sort of.

I'm far better off leaving the car at home and catching the bus for a few days, or working a few hours overtime, or collecting aluminium cans and used copper.

I looked at buying 4 x $500 cards which is under my total fuel spend on Diesel for 12 months.

Buy spending $2,000 today, I will end up with a total of $2,120 credit to spend over the next 12 months.

I couldn't justify the initial spend to get only $120 extra, especially because I'd be paying interest on it.

If it was a straight discount off the price on any given day I would sign up but the offer so far isn't exactly earth shattering.
