Insurance Renewals Recent model Prados

My renewal just came for my 2012 Kakadu. Its with Toyota insurance (purely because of the 3yr new for old feature).

The renewal is $828

Ironic the car is 2 years old, now valued my Toyota insurance at $70558... so worth less, yet the premium keeps rising! it started at the introductory $650.

My question is... for Prados a couple of years old, what are the latest recommendations for insurance?

Thoughts, suggestions appreciated...

Surprised no responses to this. I agree that every year the value goes down and the coys can manage to increase the premiums. Always feel that they do the sums based on what profit they need to make rather than the risk.

The thing I have noticed with any insurance for any vehicle of any age is that your first insurance premium is always cheapest. So I now hunt for the cheapest insurance with the most covered for my vehicle each year. I always check what they include and what they don't, because the cheapest insurance may not necessarily be the best for you.

Is it ever , my 150 brand new with AAMI was $460 3 years ago and it's now $840 !!! Fact is they give you a cheap quote just to get your business then put it up , the only way to get back at em is to change your insurer every year or tell them your not happy with their quote, BTW AAMI had the cheek to tell me they'd REDUCED my premium by 2.5 % for being a safe driver but had actually DOUBLED the premium !!! If you can figure that one out let me know ..................

Prado was recently busted into via the passenger window. Wwstfarmers insurance covered the window replacement without cost to me. But the premium is now over 1k per year - comprehensive cover. What I found almost laughable though is that I get $500 worth of vehicle contents cover. Ok.... nice..... but when I come to claim for that they tell me I have $500 excess to pay on claims for contents...... so.... I actally *don't* have any contents cover whatsoever..... yet it is a 'feature' of my ins package. I don't get it. Wish I was more savvy with stuff like this...... Does anyone get contents cover?

I foolishly fell for the hype of the GIO "Platinum" policy that offered "lifetime" new car replacement. I worked out pretty quick what was going on when the insurance went up by 50% on the 3rd renewal, which coincidentally is when everyone else's "2 year new car replacement" ends.

Needless to say it's now insured with RAC for about $500 less than GIO quoted and for nearly $15,000 more value to cover the mods (gio's insured value also dropped significantly on the 3rd renwal, it basically would have replaced the car but nothing fitted to it)...

I know this thread is for newer models but I only pay $336.19 for our 2007 120 Petrol Auto. This is through Youi and the wife is the primary driver.

Strange they just quoted me $890 ( $400 excess and max no claims ) for an 11 GXL and the most they'll insure it for is $48 !!!
