I'm glad to finally see a snatch recovery where the spectators are well away and the guy helping moved behind the ute each time... that was some serious force created there

I think that's testiment on people should learn how to use their recovery equipment correctly. That's the kind of thing which creates flying projectiles.
I recall a video of a tow-ball wedged in a dashboard some time back
Not saying they used non-rated recovery points... just a reference to projectiles

I would have prefered to see them do more with the patrol to help free it before snatching. I think that was way too much. We like to snatch at around 2000 to 2,500 revs with the other cars wheels turning at time of snatch. Scarey stuff, but good quality strap that.

It looked like he was getting to about 30kph or so before the snatch reached its full length. On that third hit it looked like the Prado's back wheels jumped into the air!
you get a suction effect and you need every pound that snatch is rated for..
i wouldnt use the strap after that..
the only bad thing about the recovery was he was using the tow bar... bad idea even with a recovery thing ( the tongue with the shackle)
use rated recovery points.. not the tow bar for high stress recoveries.. those tow bars are only bolted on to the rear cross member, NOT the chassis rails themselves.

I will have to check my tow bar are you sure they can get a 2.5t tow rating off the crossmember only?

you r right damo it was tounge in cheek, and matt you r also right it sometimes does take that much to extract a bigger vehicle stuck in mud, i remember a few years go when i had my lwb zook, my mate had a mq shortie, it was lifted and had 35s, he got bogged in a set of wheel tracks with all 4 wheels in the air, we joined 2 snatch straps together to allow me to get some solid ground, i had to hit him 16 times to get him out and everytime i backed up a full strap length, we got him out and there was no damage done to either vehicle other than my mates pride, it comes down to knowing what ya doing and knowing the limits of ya gear, thats ny 2 cents. cheers samo
had an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.

My first thought were 'I wonder how much digging they had done before snatching?'
A few more shovels of dirt from under the vehicle and maybe they wouldn't have need to work the snatch strap so hard.
