Hanging roofrack from shed ceiling

Gday all.

As my new shed has just been finished, Im looking to suspend my roofrack from the ceiling for storage when its not in use.

I was hoping there are some PPers out there that have already done this and who could post a few pics of the set us they are using.

Like all things, there are many ways of doing this but I also know there are a few cluey people out there that have some great ideas, and those ideas are the ones that I am hoping to steal.

I don't have a rack, but a kids bike trolley that goes behind a adult bike. I have 4 loops in the roof beams and then I hung 4 tie down straps from that and then lifted each one up slowly till it is at the desired height. Hope that helps.

I googled and searched PP but couldn't find that.

That's not a bad example, but Im thinking more along the line of using a boat hand winch or alike.

Im still looking for more examples... anyone???

MVX I also use bicycle lift hoists. Really cheap off evilbay and the only thing you need to do is replace the string with some better rope. I used the ubiquitous blue/yellow rope and it has been in service for many years now. Shifted from the shed to the carport. The Tracklander is very light so easy to lower for one person. The pulleys self latch so you can safely stop it anywhere and with two ropes it is easy to lower side by side. The only thing is they don't lower the same amount front and rear so you have to stop occasionally and level the rack out but no big deal.

No reason why you couldn't set up the same thing with an elcheapo boat winch instead of doing it by hand though it would be easier to use two rather than one. I was going to buy some stainless pulleys and make my own up but this is far more convenient.

I have fitted shackles onto the pulley blocks and just pick up on the floor of the rack, again no problems because the rack is so light but I do tie the rack off independently with ropes from the trusses to the top of the rack. Anyway some photos. I used to have two roof racks and thus have two sets of pulleys. I gave the smaller rack away because it wasn't really that useful on the C-ute so I have an unused set of these pulleys. Might configure a way to use them to hoist the sit on kayaks in the shed...

With a rooftop tent or the like on the rack it would be heavy but as it is with the rack and just the awning supports the Tracklander is under 25kg.

I have enough rope to lower the rack to the ground which is about 3m below the rack. The excess rope is coiled up and sits in the roofrack.
