WOW! on America's Independence Day. I will have to bring Nathan's hot dogs, potato salad, and fireworks. There is nothing like celebrating our independence by blowing stuff up.

I have been checking into transport companies and I can send my FJ down & back at a fraction of the cost. I will need some help form some PradoPointers to get the FJ back up though. As I get things taken care of "up above" I post a thread asking for help on your end.

It looks like this is really happening.

          Ben,

Always used to go along to the USAF Detachment Independence Day party at RAAF Base Richmond (Western Sydney) and the boys always put on a great party. Pity you couldn't just drive your FJ into the cargo hold of a C5 Galaxy and get it delivered to Australia free

I'm sure that all here on PP would do anything they could to help you and yours make this gathering

I'm sure there's more ...

            Thanks guys,

On the short list of things to do down there is...

Someone to pick up the FJ with me at customs at the port of Melbourne,
Someone who knows about paperwork involved with receiving a vehicle,
Someone to help with a quote on shipping the FJ back (US companies won't ship from OZ),
I need to find OZ insurance for a month.

I know more will come up, but this is what I can think of right now.

              Ben,

I have no idea about the costs involved with shipping cars to the US from here but ask these guys for a quote:

                Thanks Mav.

I know there is a lot to do, but it will be worth it. I'm constantly thinking about the road blocks that are going to pop up.

I dont know if a Workmates sister can help, She imports alot of stuff into aus, but dont know about out of it.

                  I'll ask.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

Jeff please do and I will owe you some VB when we hook up next July. The costs are spiraling out of control and anything to keep costs or time down will be much appreciated.

I have several quotes on shipping down, but US container companies can't import and I have to hire one in OZ.

Please PM me what you find.

                    Thank you,

                    -Ben

An absolutely brilliant response by members so far sees us hitting the 50 mark. It will be interesting to see how many actually attend but as there are new members signing each day and there is still a year to go this could be bigger than Ben Hur.

If we get enough members coming I might try and see if we can organise a spit roast at Ross River for at least one night. Nothing beats a pig on a spit, yummmmmmmmmm drooool!!!!

I think part of the answer, Mav, is that this is a trip that everyone would like to do and to do it in company is very attractive. I know that I am looking for company for the leg across the Simpson and having a group of PPs makes it possible for Kim, my wife to feel more confident. The main section of the trip is already famliar to me, but I will see if I can find the time to see it all again.

This preliminary work is tops and I hope that it all works out. Perhaps the Toyo dealer in Alice could sponsor something. There maybe alot of servicing/spare parts etc purchased there!

I wonder which way you come over to Sydney, Mav, when you return. Is the Plenty highway the quicest way back or down below the desert?

Hi Martin, When travelling to and from Alice to Newcastle we choose to stay on the blacktop. So we go via the Stuart HWY and jump over the range at Port Augusta through Peterborough and hook up with the Barrier HWY. we stay on the Barrier all the way to Nyngan. We then go down the Newell HWY to Dubbo and the take the Golden HWY through Merriwa and Denman to hook up with the New England just north of Branxton.

We have our accommodation all sussed out for this trip as we have been doing it for the past 20 years.

Doing this trip in 2009 will be a highlight for many and being able to do it in a group will be the icing on the cake for many that is for sure.
