In my opinion there's something to be said for managing as much as possible via IOS/Android apps. A dedicated iPod touch only costs just over $200 and it can permanently sit in your tug running all manner of apps.

In regards to Bluetooth and reception, I have a Pebble smart watch that uses Bluetooth 4 LE (Low Energy) and I've seen it get a range well over 10 metres with no trouble whatsoever and this includes comms between my wrist and my phone when the phone is mounted in my tug...

However, having said all this, this new FOBO system is yet to be proven so time will tell!!!

I think we can all agree that MLC should be the guinea pig and buy a set then let us all know how it goes 😊

Can youse gib me some money? Will accept crowd funding a $5 per head, no limit on those wanting a report. If each and every member deposits $5 to my Paypal account I should have enough money to buy 1 set and pay for numerous trips to test them properly.

Least I can do for you buggers really. No, no, its ok, its my pleasure to serve you all loyally. PS if i get a shite load you will have to wait a very long time for detailed product testing over say...... 2 years.

Looking into this, but have a few concerns:
1- if the smartphone bluetooth is connected to the handsfree, I presume it won't connect to the tyre sensors.
2- IP57, presumably won't work too well through creek crossing?
3- when airing up / down, a PITA to have to find the special wrench to remove.

                Anyone using these things?

I will try to get some answers for you from someone that knows (the Australian distributer)

That would be a worry - IP57 = Protected from limited dust ingress. Protected from immersion between 15 centimetres and 1 meter in depth.

Limited protection against dust ingress - how would it cope after a week on of travelling on the dirt?

Protected from immersion between 15 centimetres and 1 meter in depth (presume that's static immersion and not wheel rotating through a water crossing?)

                        From the Australian Distributer:

Looking into this, but have a few concerns:
1- if the smartphone bluetooth is connected to the handsfree, I presume it won't connect to the tyre sensors. Yes it runs in the background regardless of what other apps or Bluetooth devices are also running. Further the in car unit also acts as a backup and give an audible warning as well as flashing LEDS indicating which wheel has a problem.
2- IP57, presumably won't work too well through creek crossing? Extensively tested and is fully waterproof and will handle submersion up to 3 metres for several hours. However if the vehicle is submersed in 3M of water for 3 hours suspect TPMS system will not be primary in the mind of the vehicle owner….!
3- when airing up / down, a PITA to have to find the special wrench to remove. If the lock nuts are in use then that is correct. T-Valve’s can be bought as an accessory and fitted. http://www.fobotyre.com.au/hawkshead-t-valve-pack-of-4 Use of the lock nuts is optional. Recommended to use in the city to prevent theft but can quickly and easily be removed if travelling in areas where theft is unlikely to occur.

                            hmmm, dubious.
My understanding of bluetooth is only one device can be connected. I'm aware the app can run in the background, but I'm not sure the phone can be connected to the cars handsfree AND these gadgets simultaneously...
3m for 3 hours? I was wondering why not IP65, but I forgot each number means a different thing, so it has a water rating of 7, which yes, is pretty good (outdoor lights, IP65 = water rating 5...)

Yeah I can see why it's dubious as to the 3m for 3hrs
