  • 10k service / loan car

    Hi all.

So I dropped off my 2014 150 series Prado for its 10,000km service that I pre-booked. When I booked, I asked for a loan car.

I should mention that I am getting the car serviced at the same dealership in which I bought it from.

Should I be peeved that they charged me $40 for the use of the loan car considering I have already spent $70k not 6 months ago?

Also, they refused to disable the seat belt alarm which upset me further.

Is it just me, or should you expect the loan car to be a freebie?

What happens if everyone wanted a free loan car?

      ?
Thats odd, when i asked my Toymota mob to take off some of the miriad of annoying alarms i was told most of them couldnt be disabled. But.... The seatbelt could be because the farmers wanted it disabled.

Really? It's $210 for 7 ltrs of oil, a filter, tyre rotation and all the normal checks etc and you want them to throw in a free loan car! No you shouldn't be peeved you should be grateful it's only $40.

Only time I've had a free loan car from my dealer is when they stuffed up and had to rectify something, never get them for the regular services and don't expect to. I've bought 2 Prados from this dealer but both were 2nd-hand.

Yeah I've only had a free car if they've stuffed up and needed to keep mine longer. $40 might be a bit steep. If you don't need a car that day maybe just catch the bus home like I do.

My dealer at least runs a courtesy bus, last time they dropped me back off at my front door. They would have picked me back up again too but Mr Fido picked the car up on his way home from work instead.

I don't like waiting for the courtesy bus. Too impatient 😉

We always used to get a free loan car from our dealer when the thing was new and we were servicing it through them. Just had to book it a few weeks in advanced but that's all. Also used to get a complimentary car wash and vacuum but that was also before all the water restrictions came in years ago, and they said they weren't allowed. (meaning they could save wages by not doing it actually).

Our other vehicle, being Mitsubishi still gets a free clean and vacuum though when it gets serviced. And they do run a courtesy bus for you as well. Depends on the dealership I guess and how tight they are.

My dealer runs a courtesy bus. Takes me no where near the place I work but wasn't it Confucious who said it is all about the journey?

if I give my dealer enough notice free loan car from the second hand yard
only had 1 service they gave me a 150 Prado 33k on the clock that had just been traded.
120km return trip to work and back. no charge their fuel.
Country dealer and they have a good rep.
                          so far so good.

Reasonable advice in a few replies. First time buying a new car and first time getting a car serviced at a dealership so I wasn't sure of the etiquette.

In future I will take my car to the dealership next to a train station instead of the middle of suburbia where I purchased it.

Good idea. When I used to take mine to Scarboro Toyota I could get on the train then bus and be home in 20 mins if timed right.
Take it elsewhere now but still catch the bus. Gives you some time to read PP 👍
