  • The rear door + Toyota 4Runner

So i finally manged to get out and take the boat out on the water. My last two cars were a Mitz Challenger and a Nissan Pathfinder.
Get to the boat ramp and by custom I have half of my gear in the prado. Half of it on the boat. Go to open the rear door and of course there is not much room. I call it the fridge door. Now I obviously knew of this before I bought the car but still find it annoying. On my previous cars the bootlid would just raise up and would be such a breeze! Now just have to do a little extra planning.

My thoughts are, why don't Toyota bring the 4Runner to Oz? They were here before. Im sure others would like the rear door to open upwards instead? Do we think there is a market for them here? I think there is. Not just because of the bootlid, that is just a bonus!

Looks like a Tundra made love to a Prado, don't mind the look of them actually. Would be nice with a V8

a lift up rear door prevents the spare tyre to be mounted onto the door, thus reducing the fuel tank capacity which is really advantageous.

Buy the current Altitude if you want the liftup rear door, this is an option to still have the Prado.

The current Altitude rear door is still hinged to the side.

I would suggest the opportunity presents itself for a new boat with a different trailer so that the door opens above the drawbar. There IS a silver lining...

extend the drawbar on the boat trailer
you should only be pulling the boats weight not carrying it

that's what i did on my 5.7m Allycraft

check the balance of the boat you may be able to move it back on the trailer
or just put all the gear in the boat before you leave

Well you're stuck with the car now so it's cheaper to buy a new trailer. Or as MJ said a new boat and trailer 👍
I'm sure you can swing that past your good lady

Yea a few adjustments to loading the boat first will solve the problem. And next year, maybe will be time to upgrade the boat

Why would you buy an altitude then?
So lose fuel space to fit the wheel back underneath?
