anyone know any model or brands out there that has GPS, UHF as well police channel scanner etc and so on ? I love the GME 60 channel UHF which can hear police and emergency channels as well usintg the normal 40 channel uhf anyway my ideal radio is

clear , loud , and GPS, UHF, Scanner !! does this exist ?

    Any feedback would be appericated

I have found the extra (programmable) UHF channels a bit of a sales gimic. I think most of the police channels have gone digital except out western NSW ?? Most of the time you only get half the conversation.

I have an ICOM IC400Pro. It doesn't have a GPS but gets the rest of your criteria, its built like a brick sh*thouse !! It is supposed to be military spec. It runs at a consistant 5W/ch and can be run at 25W/ch

Re: GPS - A Suunto X9i (GPS watch) will give you more functions.

that's not a bad unit looking at the features.
just not sure how it stacks up in the real world when being used.
          but time will tell.

Nearly all of the AUST govt radio network is digital. You will need a digital frequency skipping scanner to be able to hear them.
They dont make one with a UHF radio.

There is a number of threads on suitable UHF radios here already, one with a programmable scanner built in.

Ditto for Beenleigh down to the Gold Coast.

It was only a minor buying criteria for me... it's mild entertainment, but otherwise not much real purpose. My wife works for QAS, so she tends to enjoy the Ambo conversations, trying to pick their voices and call-signs.

Not for long, They are already trialing the GRN up there. Roll out of towers and cells is already well underway.

Parts of Northern & Western Qld also still use the analogue network but that is due to be phased out by 2010, anyway. Getting half of the conversation is about getting one half of duplex transmission, so a double whammy.

I bought a GME TX3400 but (had I known) I would have waited for the all-singing, all-dancing "microphone only" models that are available now.

For a GPSr, I chose the Garmin GPSMAP60Cx which I can remove from the cradle attached, by suction, to the windscreen and walk along a track to map it - instead of driving along it - to check for 'fallen debris' and make a call as to whether or not it would be worth clearing said debris.

I would buy a UHF radio for the UHF radio and a GPSr for the GPSr features.

                    Just my opinion.
