I use a pop rivet to hold the fuel pump open. Keep it in the plastic trim under the cap. Have too been in trouble with the servo but if you keep your hand on the nozzle, what they don't see won't hurt. Use 99% caltex because they are the only ones left making diesel in Brisbane.

They remove the lock for safety reasons and I saw first hand in Darwin the results, a woman picked up the pump to put super fuel in her tank and the trigger was locked, operator in the office turned the pump on and the woman was still turning with the nozzle and spayed fuel all over her friend standing near the car. Luckily no one was smoking or this would have been a disaster. Next day the locks had been removed on the pumps.

I have small allen keys bent and attached onto the cars keyring.

I have the 90L prado tank, the 70L 370z tank and the 115L truck tank.

All those tanks are too big for holding on that long!

I have never been asked to stop or remove the locking device. I didn't even know they cared!

The lock at the servo I fill the truck at wasn't working the other day for some reason, I held the trigger while I pumped in 700lts with a low flow pump, it really wasn't that big of a deal!

            Cheers Andrew

For those of you carrying pins and such to help at the bowser, no need, just use the fuel cap!

Would to agree with using BP Ultimate.... it's the only fuel I've come across that doesn't froth.... Caltex is next on the list.
When we are touring I'm always on the lookout for BP Ultimate, followed by Caltex, but sometimes u have no choice with where u go when touring.... but BP's "normal" diesel froths like the others.....

Now that Ultimate Diesel is available in Melbs, I only use that its rated at cetane level of 52.

Shell Diesel Extra is similar to vortex. It doesn't froth. Can't get it everywhere though.

Locking the pump open must only be dangerous in Australia, in just about every other country I go to (USA, Canada, Europe, South Africa) you can lock both petrol and diesel pumps open.

Well My understanding is that we need to run a min cetane stage of 78, BP is the only diesel fuel, that comes near to this ranking. Caltex, Spend from what I can find is at the min Aus requirements of 66.

I agree, and then just rest your hand on the pump handle so it looks good!

                              In vic we avoid shell.
5% bio, good & bad, but don't like the bad part.
Every area has a different mix.
I use vortex "premium diesel keep it clean" caltex claims to have your back all the way.
Have fun with the fuel game.
