    I agree with you guys.
When i was driving a truck and another one was maybe a km or so behind me i would call him up and let him know to light it up.
It was only a few minutes leaning forward to avoid mirror reflection.
My HIDs are 70 watt spread beams and thats enough with sign reflections etc.
I cant out drive them at night so its good enough.
I also found that with bright lights in windy roads oncoming cars would dip early and i would not even know they were there until i have dazzled them on a corner.
I now drive with one finger on the dipper.

Well I had APF lights on my 70 series and they did the job for when driving in the evening. My partner had 3 DRB Intensitys fixed across the top of his roof holder on his Defensive player he's got a lot of cash, so cash is no item with him.

DOT WA have just announced a 3 year exemption for the fitment of LED light bars to vehicles commencing 8 August 2015. There are conditions though:

Must be installed at the front and no higher than the front edge of the bonnet.
Must be horizontal and located symmetrically.
Must be facing forward and the light cannot cause the driver discomfort either directly or by reflection.
Must only operate with high beam. Must have a manual switch to deactivate.
          Must only emit white light.
Bar must not obstruct drivers vision of the road way more than 11 metres ahead.
Maximum of 4 bars only. Can be single or double row LED.

This means no light bars can be mounted to the roof rack or roof where they will emit light to the front of the vehicle. This includes light bars fitted as work lights.

Infringements will be issued for breaches within WA.

How does this work if they are fitted for off road purposes only?

I guess that is fine if you only fit them when off road

              Cheers Andrew

                Hwy guys,

After I got rid of the shoddy spotlights that came with my car when I bought it I got a set of Rigid Industries LED spotties in a "Driving" patter for $400. I'm pretty happy with them, used them at the end of last year through outback queensland to good effect and they aren't too bright reflecting off signs.
One thing I did notice is that they aren't like halogen lights in that you can't see the beam running down the road, you only notice how far they go when they reflect off something. If that makes sense.
Anyway, they are not a bad light for the price. Full kit included.

There's a recent post about the DOT WA policy on this general page. What is interesting is they only talk about LED light bars and not LED spotlights. The same rules about not having the spotties above your bonnet line also apply.

by "dip" I gather everyone actually means "switch off" for high beams etc?

My rule of thumb is: if you can see their lights in front of you, don't blind them, switch them off.

I do a lot of night time driving (about 2500km syd>canberra>syd>canberra>etc a month) and there is nothing worse than some douche leaving high beams on... or with improperly adjusted aftermarket high intensity lights that aim straight into your windscreen.

                        .
If it's a truck coming towards you, dip your lights when you see their clearance lights, the driver sits a long way above the headlights, not many people seem to understand this in my experience.

                        Cheers Andrew
