Just read in the front pages of 4WD Monthly that Toyota Aust. CEO (or whoever the boss is) has confirmed the Fortuner Update (based on the all new Hilux) is confirmed and will slot under Prado in 7 seat form to compete with the cheaper smaller offerings. And the big news is that after Mr Toyoda visited here last year on the 20,000km evaluation tour of the country in all there models sold here has admited that ending teh 70-series would be a mistake. He has seen and understands the following it has, the Land Cruiser brand is paramount to Toyota here and around the world.
So they are in the midst of evaluating what has to change in the 70-series and have confirmed that by 2017 the body will be updated to 5-star standard, while retaining the same underpinnings.
This is great news - I think the loss of sales to the mines is too much to pass by I think. Pretty big change of direction from two years ago when they announced its finished. Hopefully they'll widen the rear track while they are at it to make it the same as the front.
