  • Also have a leaking seat belt pillar from installed roof rack.

I read the various replies from people that mentioned having water come in through their Prado seat belt pillar after having a roof rack installed. Would using auto / marine silicon in the bolt holes and putting the bolts back in fix this or do i need to remove the whole roof rack and also replace any washers seals .
Can this be done without removing the whole roof rack on a bolt by bolt option?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    It's a 2009 Prado GXL .
    Thank you.

You'll need to remove the whole rack and inspect the mounts. Which roofrack is this? Rhinorack supplies O-rings that goes around the plastic tubes in the mounting holes.

When this happened to me I had to take it back to a shop to get it fixed. Turns out it was dodgy installation and the seals weren't even used on the initial install! The workshop that installed it have since liquidated, but not before charging me full price for shitty workmanship - good riddance 4x4 and more Ozzie Park!

In order to do it though you need to do as Andrew said and remove the whole rack and inspect each mount.

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like a big job for the weekend.
Any suggestions on best options for buying the o-rings / seals to replace the existing ones?
Would auto / marine silicon be ok to use on the bolts when putting it all back together?
Sorry for the many questions but i just want to fix it correctly to make it last.
        Feedback appreciated, thanx in advance

You just need to apply sealant around the plastic tubes. Sometimes, the plastic tubes gets crushed and it creates an interference with the built in seal on the roofrack feet from properly contacting the roof.

Thank you amts, i appreciate the feedback. I will take off the roof rack ( it a large full length cage style ) but only appears to leak on the front left passenger side pillar. Only noticed this when melbourne had the large downpour last week. Never had it before. I will chack the mounts and silicon plastic tubes. Can you buy replacement seals from a cheaper than Toyota spare parts ?
Thank you for the assistance .
