  • Evakool a bit Cold.

Seeking some ideas/thoughts while waiting for a call back from Evakool tomorrow. My nice new fridge seems to go straight to -20 degC rather than to the point I have it set at (2 degC at the moment). This happens when plugged into either 240 or 12 volts.

Any thoughts on why this might be happening...have I missed something while setting it up?

    Any ideas appreciated.

    Cheers!

It may be the thermostat (so to speak) not turning the compressor off when fridge reaches preset degrees. Does it stay -20 no matter where temp is set. Have you checked with another thermometer ?

Yeah. I upped the set point to 10. Still at -20ish. I've missplaced the thermometer attachment for my multimeter, but I put glass of water in. It was frozen in about an hour.

Hey mate what model do you have? Is
the fridge flat out ? Does the fridge turn itself off and does that "cycle" light go out?

Sounds like a dodgy thermistor, not an uncommon problem with various fridge brands, unlucky that its an issue straight out of the box though.

Its the Glacier G50. The fridge seems to just run, and run, and run.

The guy who sold me the fridge said, in his experience (hes been selling Evakool fridges for about 10 years), if something isn't right, it usually shows up straight out of the box...

Apparently Evakool are really good to deal with when things aren't quite right. Hopefully I'll get the call back today with some options.

Turns out, retarded me, assumed that the fridge was set up correctly from the word go...but it was switched to emergency mode, which apparently runs the fridge flat out, regardless of the set point. So, after some advice from the helpful Priscilla at Evakool and making a fool of myself saying I was sure it was on standard mode, I have the fridge running at home to see if it sets itself at the set point.

Hey Spilsy we all do these things to make ourselves look like a goose. I bought a winch today and all the extra stuff that goes with it was on display together on display. When I was missing a snatch block I left message for the shop, but surprise surprise it was hiding in the winch box . Another reason never to be rude to anyone just incase you're wrong cause you'll only look like a goose not a w@nker

Yeah true. I've learned that it's usually not the helpful person on the phone that's done something wrong so there's no point being rude to them. Priscilla from Evakool was most helpful and even laughed with me when I realised I'd made a mistake.
