Traction is obviously one of the most important aspects of a tyre, from your comments and other reviews, it looks like they are very strong in that regard. Tough, great traction and pretty decent wear life looks to be great for the money.

Now to throw a spanner in the works, i've been looking at the age old debate of 235/85/16 vs 265/75/16. I was set on the latter but in reading a few debates I'm not so sure now, thinking maybe tall and skinny (about 1" skinnier) might be the better option.

Looking at the OD figures for Duelers according to their website:
    235/85/16 = 818mm
    265/75/16 = 804mm

The difference of 14mm extra hight would be useful for getting the diffs lifted that extra bit as well.
Off road grip and performance are my main concerns. (better milage is a bit of a bonus for the 235)

I'm assuming the figures on their website are correct but it makes you wonder as there isn't usually such a large gap.

    Any opinions?
I went for the 265/75/16 due to the availability at outback travel and the lower price compared to the standard 17"on the 120 series.
But I think I feel the change of the gearing at take off in 1st gear on the road.

Speedo is off as well, which I adjusted by opening the cluster and turning the needle on the axle of the speedometer.
Obviously the odometer is still showing too little after that mod (compared to the GPS) but that is amazingly almost 10% less compared to the GPS.
I dont know where it was with the standard tire and did not do the calculation but by gut feeling I expected much less discrepancy.
BTW: the speedo adjustment was the only thing which was required for getting an engineering certificate in case you want to go down that path.

    Regards

Forgot another valid point, the 235 are cheaper.

      235/85/16 = $205 -Total for 5 =$1025
      265/75/16 = $238 -Total for 5 =$1190

The difference of $165 is worth taking into consideration. Thats a few slabs of your favourite beverage

My speedo is already out by about 5% based on GPS (speedo shows higher than actual speed). So the tyre upgrade should make my speedo about correct. (another cheeky bonus of the upgrade)

I wasn't really thinking about the odometer change to be honest. 10% sounds high to me but like you thats just based off what id expect. (about 5% or atleast inline with the % difference in the speedo) I'm not sure but I think it is based on the diff gearing? Maybe someone can set me straight.

Thanks for the tip about the cert.

I also forgot to half the OD in my previous post about the extra hight. The difference is 7mm extra hight not 14mm.
