  • Cape Pre-Trip Inspection

With only seven weeks to got before my Cape trip, I'm looking to shortly (end of May) get a pre-trip inspection done on the Prado. Whilst I've spent some time doing visual checks on everything, I'd like an experienced 2nd set of eyes to thoroughly go over the Prado and to double check all necessary bolts and loctiteing where required (in particular accessories such as bullbar, spotties winch etc...) Also things such as radiator fixings and anything else that been known to rattle itself free when being exposed to the rigours of the Capes infamous corrugations.

So does anyone in the Brisbane area know of a good place that's familiar with Toyotas, that I can take the Prado to for such an inspection?

I'm heading up there in around 8-9 weeks myself and wouldn't mind a list of things such as hoses, clamps, etc that I should consider carrying with me.

    +1
    Derek

I have lost bash plate bolts a couple of times on trips, they were definitely tight when we left, so I wouldn't automatically blame Toyota.

              Cheers Andrew

U might be right, but when I installed it, I've used Loctite b4 one of our outback trip along corrugated roads w/o a problem. The next trip I had a service b4 leaving and lost some bolts. From what I could see, Toyota removed the whole bashplate instead of just the draining plate.... So, I'm assuming they didn't use loctite on the bolts when re-installing. The thing that annoyed me was the loss of the bolt protectors.... they are not cheap to replace...

Mike lost his bolts holding exhaust to extractors last year.

Sounded like a tractor until we did a partial fix.

Luckily we had come bolts with us to use as temporary fix until correct bolts could be fitted.

also brisbane north I could not recommend robby mehl from bay tyre mechanical at deception bay high enough. he races 4x4's so knows them inside out. His brother also owns northside 4x4 who specialise in turbos, chips and custom work so it is in their blood. these guys are very very good at what they do. Tell him Brenton from crediflex put you onto him and he will look after you. Been in business 15+ years so it says something. he is also a licenced dealer of mickey thompson as well as a lot of other good products.
