  • How many Km is too many

An interesting thought I've had some discussions with friends about.
At how many kilometres on the clock would you start to question the reliability of the car for outback touring and at what point do you start to question if you'd get your moneys worth out of 'long term' upgrades such as suspension/rear bars/bullbars etc
I have a 2010 D4D and I've decided that the 200,000km mark is where I'd start to look for a new car.

Many people start with 200 000K on the clock.

      200,000k is just the beginning.

But there are many of us happy to accept your vehicle at $30k with mods, instead of buy a new one $60k+ mods

These vehicles will go for a very long time, especially if they are well looked after.
There's nothing unreliable about these vehicles.
Put your money into a spare starter & alternator.
Set of injectors, that's about it.

From 200k it's win win win, if it has not popped its cherry 1kd, it's probably a good one, an engine is only 10k.
If it was to pop add 2 or 3 engines before its cost you equivalent of a new Prado.
But then if money is no object go n get a new one, someone is in need of your well tested unit

Watching a Pickles Auction online yesterday from Darwin there was an ex Police 2011 GX Prado that had a brand new motor fitted under warranty at 62000km and had only travelled 600km since being fitted, this was disclosed prior to going to auction, sold for approx. $39000
New 2015 150s GX 5 seater with floor mats, towbar and a big wish list
Previously a 2004 120s 1KZ GX silver manual with stuff
before that a 1996 RV6 90S with lots of gear

About this time last year I traded a 2008 120 series with 300,000 on the clock that was running well. Transfer case was a different story.
My point of view is that it's not the number on the clock that matters, it's how it got them that matters more.
