  • Towing mirrors for Prado GXL

    Hi Guys,

I have just run in my new 150 series Prado with about 5000 klm up so far - love that Prado! Our New Age Manta Ray van should be arriving shortly and I need to get some decent towing mirrors before heading off on a planned trip up to Darwin. I currently have a couple of old and worn clip on type mirrors that I used for towing a Jayco camper but I don't think they will be good enough for the bigger van. I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation on the most suitable type of mirrors for the Prado.

Thanks for anyone able to respond.

I use Milenco Aero's - they clamp onto the top of the mirror but I think the aerodynamic shape is what makes them work well.

The XXL's that I have do need to be trimmed down a bit - with the snorkel in the way they stand out from the body quite a way- but at least I have a good view of the rear!

(link for illistration only, no affiliation, just the first ad I found)

I prefer these over the type that strap to the door and grip the window rubber strip but will admit that this type are more stable... horses for courses I guess.
    Cheers
    Micheal.

Got a spare $800? Then Clearview Towing Mirrors might be an option.

Forgot about Clearview type mirrors - yep they really are the Bees Knees!

My rig wouldn't fit in the garage with those bad-boys on, but they are probably one of the finest options and closest to OEM.
        Cheers

          clearviewmirrors all the way.

I have never seen so many Prado's with them on the south coast.

I have driven with them towing a 6m boat and they are the Bees Knees!

I played around with clip ones for a few years and upgraded recently for a few upcoming big trips to some Clearviews. Great vision around and behind the Expanda, won't go without them again on any vehicle I tow with.

If you have some time, keep an eye on Gumtree and the preowned section of the Clearview site. I got a set for my 120 Prado that look new (and came in the boxes with the dvd) for just over half the price of new

Sorry this setup is my neighbour's rig and boat on the South Coast. I only have a 4.5mt tinny so far with the factory mirrors.

If you have plenty of money, the Clearviews will probably do.

If you don't have plenty of money, the Milenco's work O.K.

Just returned from W.A. with my Manta Ray van, the Milenco's worked O.K. for me. Quick and easy to fit and remove.

Unless you're a nomad on a fulltime trip the Clearview are impractical IMHO. They just sit out too wide and look ridiculous around town. Not to mention the width trying to park.

With the Milenco's, they take half a minute to remove once you hit your destination, no problems with parking.
