  • Camp chairs

I had a quick search and couldn't find anything recent, but please direct me if I've missed something. The wife and I are looking into buying some new camp chairs, our current ones are slowly dieing from old age and overuse. We currently have a pair of Oztent King Goanna chairs and would like some recommendations to have a look at.

Basically we need chairs that fold to a similar size or smaller (about 120cm long and 15cm square at most) and hard wearing good quality. The ones we have are just starting to show signs of wear and we don't want them to fail on us mid trip, they are about 5yrs old and will be great backup chairs should we need some to lend to someone, etc. I'm not unhappy with the Oztent chairs, although if they could fold up smaller that would be great. Not really overly concerned about price, if it's the right chair it doesn't really matter (within reason)

Hopeing all you guys with all that experience will be able to give me a few directions to check out. What chairs are you running, what do you like about them and would you buy them again???

Hey mate, I had the same problem of trying to find something comfortable, I have done a bit of research and found the Rhino Rack chair the best and so far the most durable, the bag from the chair rolls up and fits into the head rest and makes an awesome pillow. In fact I have fallen asleep in it more than a few times. (after a few drinks ofcourse) I have since got an Oztent King Kokoda for the wife because she was always using mine and it is exactly the same design and specs. Cost around $80 to $100. Cheers hope this helps

I hunted for a fair while for mine, my main concern is the cut in under your leg from the side edges.

Finally I settled on the BlackWolf CAPTAIN'S Chair, no leg issue and reasonable back support.

Yes i would by them again, they are proved themselves well over the last few years.

Hi. We just bought 2 new Chairs for our new caravan on line but pick them up from BCF. They had a special promotion virtually 2 for the price of one.
Wanderer Reclining 8 Position Chair - Boating Camping Fishing. They are normally $139 each and we got the for $139 for 2. They are a brilliant chair and so comfy. We recon we got a bargin.

We have two of these. Like them a lot and are alot stronger then a normal chair. Not that im 150kgs but the extra reinforcement make them last a long time.

Our first camp chairs were a pair of $9 cheapies from Bunnings I bought a while back for a surfing trip - pretty comfortable and compact. Then we purchased two Oztent Geckos at last year's caravan & camping show purely out of consumer desperation; I really wanted to buy a $80K camper trailer but my missus said no.

So, a few months later we strapped the Oztents to the roof for a 3week Flinders and Corner Country trip… and they got used twice. We again tied them to the roof for our 5week Simmo & Uluru trip but this time threw in the two Bunnings chairs in the rear.

Guess what never got used in 17 nights of camping:

I did a 3 month trip with two Kmart cheapies. They were used everyday and for a bit afterwards. Now got two Coleman similar to their chair quad Chunky. Comfortable and holding up well. Don't use the insulated pouch much except as a storage pocket. Got them half price during a BCF sale

I like my ARB chair for comfort. Although AJ has a chair he bought for his wife that is the Bees knees. Just not sure of the name.

I have some spinifex chairs which are very comfortable and durable and pretty similar to these (just without the padded section):

I have had them now for about 7 years and the are still going strong, I got them on special at the time. They come with a decent bag too. The same chair is available under a few different brand names.

Thanks guys, some good leads there to look into. I guess I'm off for a shopping trip to sit in all these chairs in the not to distant future. If anyone has any others keep them coming

Other question is how big are they folded up??

our Oztent Geckos are huge http://www.oztent.com.au/oztent-furn...r#.VbYpV1yp3dk , hence my story above. They're extremely comfortable and adjustable but not suited for trips where space is at a premium

For the price (I over-quoted $2!) sit in one of these before you drop $100+ on a camp chair:

I have some oztrail chairs that i inherited from my parents. These are the original folding camp chair (of the style everyone recognizes now). These have been going for the best part of the last 10-15 years or so. The only issue - one of the arm rests is no longer fastened to the front (it can slip on and off).

They are relatively comfortable, however I am on the hunt for something new (which I bet I cant get 15 years out of).

I also have a double moon chair for the minister of finance. She wanted it to a) lounge on when camping and b) use it at fireworks/carols etc so we only have to bring one chair.
