  • Prado 150/120 and Ultimate Offroad Camper

The missus has finally given the green light to put a new camper in the driveway, so my long term dream of owning an Ultimate Off-road trailer may finally come to fruition.

I am chasing some advice (photo's would be great too) from anyone with a Prado 150/120 and an Ultimate camper, how do you find usability of the rear door when the trailer is connected to the car? Does the door hit the front of the trailer when opened or have you encountered any other major deal breakers using an Ultimate on the back of a Prado?

Now that we are located in WA, these things are pretty rare so actually finding one to connect the car to is not as easy as it should be, so any advice from a long term owner would be greatly appreciated.

Hey mate , I don't have an ultimate , I have a customline & I can't open my back door fully so my RHS draw does not open fully either. I assume this might be the same unless they have an extra long drawbar.
    Cheers Matt

Ultimate make the draw bar longer to suit the prado rear door. Did they ask what tug you have when you ordered it (I assume you have ordered one)?
      Mine clears fine.

        Hey rwo,
A mate of mine has one with his 120 and loves it. it's a great camper for storage and weight and easy to set up. nice hot water external shower and you cant beat the kitchen, sink, fridge and cupboards. Havent noticed any problem opening the back door, but mate thats going to happen with any camper i have trouble with mine hitting the stone guard on my camper.
The only downside to the whole design is the door which is a solid bottom half with a canvas top half that you have to zip on and off every time you want to go in or out. They end up just leaving it unzipped and mozzies get in. But everything's a compromise and is probably one of if not the best campers going around.
Travellander do camper trailers as well as tray back campers and also are well worth considering as they open with a remote and have the normal zipped door on a hard floor, but you have to set up the annex to cook out of the flies etc... Everything's a compromise!

          Thanks for the reply's.

Adrian5800, haven't ordered anything yet but have had a few conversations with them regarding an available demo model, which I suspect does not have an extended draw bar (tow vehicle has not been discussed). When you say "yours clears fine", does that mean it has an extended draw bar for the Prado and you can open your rear door fully?

They'll extend the drawbar to suit the prado door for around $450 I'm led to beleive, I bought mine second hand and the previous owner had a 120 too so it was already spec'd to suit.
I'll hook mine up in the next few days and take some photos as I need to take it and the prado over the weighbridge before the next trip in september.

Yep the rear door opens fully with probably less than an inch to spare from memory.
