    Hi, 120 (07/08) diesel Prado, awesome car, service carried out about 5 weeks ago just before 5,000km drive. Only in the last 500km though something quite hard to explain has occurred - so just after changing gears, the revs increase for about 2 to 3 seconds (in most gears, more so the lower gears while speed increases). Its like the car wants to go faster and the revs increase until the gear change occurs and speed increases. I will book it into the mechanics soon but what on earth is it? can't be the clutch as it occurs post gear change - is it the turbo??

    If it is a manual (i assume from your description) and the revs increase after you release the clutch peddle then it can only be a slipping clutch.

      clutch slipping, i hadn't thought of that - i've only had a clutch go in a car years ago and it simply went, no hints whatsoever. The increase in revs occurs post changing gears that's why i didn't think it was the clutch. Thanks mate. I'm not that mechanical so will see what the local Toyota dealer has to say.

        That's exactly what it sounds like, absolutely classic symptoms of a clutch slipping.

          If the clutch is not slipping, it might be a malfunctioning Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Circuit. If you are electrically minded, the test procedure outlined in this document specific to the 1KD-FTV may give you an idea.

          Also if you have a OBDII scanning tool like a ScanGauge II, you may be able to search for any ECU faults logged in the system, although sometimes no fault is logged despite an issue occurring. This thread has some possible fault codes to check:

          You might see any one of these codes:

          P2120 (19) - Throttle/pedal position sensor “D” (open/short/fail)
          P2121 (19) - Throttle/pedal position sensor “D” (range/performance)
          P2122 (19) - Throttle/pedal position sensor “D” low input.
          P2123 (19) - Throttle/pedal position sensor “D” input high.
          P2125 (19) - Throttle/pedal position sensor “E” (open/short/fail)
          P2127 (19) - Throttle/pedal position sensor “E” low input.
          P2128 (19) - Throttle/pedal position sensor “E” high input.
          P2138 (19) - Throttle/pedal position sensor “D” and “E” voltage correlation.
