      yup

Yup the RodeoTD is economical, my prado TD is startingly thirsty!
But the Prado is my wife's favourite because it is quieter and more comfortable. I can't get the key off her! I'm left with the Rodeo.

Matt I am probably going to burst some of your bubble here but I bought a brand spanker 2005 TD RA Rodeo dual cab LT (top of range) and for 20 months wished I had never walked into a Holden dealer. Biggest piece of crap I have ever owned and just to fill you in:

From day 1, it used 3 litres of oil every 10K and was constantly told that it was within specs until I threatened legal action at 34K and they miraculously decided to fit a new engine. Guess what? the new engine did the same thing and some poor sod in Singleton is still driving it around and trying to get rid of it. Every time I saw one in a servo, I would talk to the driver and the general comment was "it is a new car, why should I check the oil" - well buddy I think you should start checking!!

Fuel sender unit was replaced 5 times in 80K and still had the same problem when I traded it as the day I bought it, gauge reads empty while still having 35 litres in tank. Holden needed the vehicle for a full day each time it was changed.

Electronic 4WD control in transfer case died three times in the last 15K that I owned it. Again another full day without the vehicle and sometimes a two week wait for the parts.

Fuel economy round town was great but put her on the highway and the economy reversed, it actually used heaps more fuel (never had a vehicle use more on highway than round town). Holden could not figure that one out either.

So at 80K I thought to myself in 20K this is going to start costing me a fortune to repair and went and bought the Prado and have never looked back

          well

          Well, what a dud.....

Exact opposite of my experience...mind you mine is a 2.8 TD.
Doesn't drink oil and economy on the highway is great, even towing.
So I am very happy with my ol' truck.

You certainly have every reason to be pee-ed off about Rodeos though, with that experience.

I had heard that the 3.0l Rodeos were heavier on fuel than the 2.8s

Good on economy round town - about 8.5L/100km but on the highway sitting on 100km/h from Hunter Valley to Central Queensland was getting around 11-11.5L/100km, just couldn't figure it out. Smart ass from Holden said "maybe it's because you were going uphill to Queensland" my response was "so ok Einstein, why didn't it use less fuel coming back home downhill"

            Never again!!

Actually Matt if you are talking about L... Holden in Singleton I kept right away from them and bought the vehicle for 5K less at Newcastles major dealer didn't do me any good in the long run though except the 5K saving.

I guess you have got less to go wrong with it only being 2WD but beware!!

Anyway gotta go and it the blacktop out of Sydney now its peak hour traffic.

                Hi all
All i can say good luck with
that .There up with with the other biggest dud td jackeroo. Biggest concerns so far welch plugs blowing out of inlet manifold ,wont start due
immoboliser problems ,fuel pumps and on the lastest ones control valves
on the injector pump plus other numeros problems .GM have sold there stake in isuzu whitch means
they will be rebadged as colorado. The rumour going around is that toyota
have bought them for their truck technolgy and will close it down in a few
years but that might be only scuttle butt. If it were my choice Hilux, triton
mazda and if i felt like a walk every now then RODEO . Buts that my opinon and experiences with them.

                  well

not my experience with them, but mine is an older 2.8.

Bit hard to generalise....I travelled down through the Kimberley and the Pilbara 2 years ago with a mate in his Hi-LuX TD and his blew up at Tom price...they had to ship a recon motor in. My Rodeo TD had no probs on the same trip and is still running strong.

It can happen to any brand I guess.

                    Oh matt

And the other major problem that I had that nobody could put a finger on was the engine's ability to just shut down to idle from whatever speed you were doing, engine warning light would come on and just wouldn't rev. Turn her off for a few minutes (longest stint was 45 minutes in between Goondawindi and Miles) and then all of a sudden the warning light goes off and it would start and run normal. Just couldn't risk it any more

Do I sense a change in your attitude to us oil burners then mate. I am still trying to replicate your fuel figures when took off from the servo at Muswellbrook on our last trip.
