  • Can anyone identify this sat nav?

    Hi,

I'm new to the forum so i hope i'm posting this in the correct place. If not, please direct me.

I live in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and i jus bought a 2nd hand prado from my brother. It is a 2008 model, 5 door 4.0L VX with leather seats etc.

I am very happy with everything but the radio is quite old and doesn't have AUX input or USB etc. so i'd really like to change it. I've been searching through paperwork and on google but can't seem to identify the radio model number to know whether it can accept an AUX from the back? If not, i would like to replace it with something more modern - in that can has anyone got any suggestions for what could fit?

    Here's a picture of the radio: https://www.dropbox.com/s/c3o2sv3j1j...83057.jpg?dl=0

At first i thought it was an AVN6000 but i don't think it is? Any ideas?

    Appreciate it,

    Thanks,
    Sean.

It's a genuine Toyota Satnav. Is the stacker within the unit?

        Hey Amts,

Thanks so much for the reply.

This is very similar to mine, but maybe newer because mine doesn't say anything about AUX. The DISC button doesn't mention DISC-AUX like the page that you linked. If i could get an AUX cable in the back that would be perfect. There's a 5 or 6 disc CD shuttle in the cubby hole/glove box so maybe i could deactivate that and replace it with a cable? Any ideas are welcomed

Mine also has a DVD player inside and when you push the load button the face tilts forward and there's a place to insert a tape behind.

My dad and i actually removed the radio and took a look at the back - i have a print out of the pin-outs but it's a bit confusing. We were thinking that we could piggy back on the wires coming from the CD changer but initial tests weren't so successful. We're going to try again.

What i'd really like to consider is replacing the almost 8 year old radio with something newer but i'm afraid that the connections and cables are going to be completely different if i just buy something in the market. I will call Toyota tomorrow but i'm sure they're going to be very expensive so probably can't go that route.

Gday Seanocaster and welcome, a few on the forum have replaced their OEM units for aftermarket units, they are way more versatile and if you search you get free map upgrades, this is the company i bought from 3 years ago and am impressed with the unit, i run off road and on road maps on the same unit and it was totally plug and play no cutting of wires etc (mine was for the 150 series prado) here is a link to their unit which would suite your car by the looks, drop them an email they are easy to deal with,

there are many many sellers on the net try www.aliexpress.com for other sellers, most of the units are around the $300 - $600AUD, enjoy, any questions feel free to pm me...

In Australia, the auto shops here sells vehicle specific looms to match with generic aftermarket stereos. Perhaps UAE will have some also. Then it is a matter of plug n play.

                  Hey Gympiebrowns,

Thanks so much for the recommendation. I would love to buy something like what you've suggested and i've often seen aliexpress come up with stuff but never know how trustworthy they are? I also worry that i'd buy the wrong unit that doesn't match the car and fittings that i have. Nevertheless, i've taken a look and found this which seems like it would be perfect:http://www.aliexpress.com/store/prod...261498786.html wish there was a way to walk into a local shop and just test it.

I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and change a few cables if necessary - but i'd be mostly afraid that the unit doesn't fit in where my existing radio is

                    Thanks Amts,

I'll ask a few questions here but perhaps because the car is quite old there won't be any support for it. Thanks for the tips.

                        Awesome, thanks for the feedback.

Just thought i'd let everyone know that i found a really awesome unit in the local market for about US$ 280 and it runs android. I've only just installed it but it appears to work really well so far. It has wifi, bluetooth, USB inputs on the front and back, GPS, DVD etc. i used the google play store to install google maps and it navigates well using tethering from my mobile phone. Here's a basic pic of it connected to my wifi at home, which is can see from the garage where i park.

I had a technician from the shop where i bought it from help me to install it but it was quite straight forward. The device is built for universal toyotas so the supplied cables just plugged right in.

thanks again to everyone for the feedback
