    Hi everyone

My name is Dave, I live in Perth

I've just signed up to your site.

I currently have a well modded 94 hilux surf.

I'm currently planning on upgrading to a kdj120 prado with a 5 speed auto

I haven't started looking at cars yet, I've just started looking at your forum for info.

So far I've seen problems with cracking on the left from wheel arch. Is this a big structural problem? What is the fix?

D4D engine, need injectors done. I will do that as soon as I purchase it. Sump oil pick up. Is this from sack of service? Will regular engine flushing rectify this problem? Am I best off dropping the sump? Is that easy to do?

Any thing else I need to know?

Any problems with twin rear wheel carrier Said?.

End goal is for an extremely capable pardon with comfort
    Twin locked etc

    Thanks in advance

      Hi mate

      I don't think I can.

Maybe my account hasn't been fully approved yet but I don't seem to be able to see all threads.

Example, the body/chassis in the 120 section. It's says their is 318 threads. I can only see 2

There is something in settings that lets you see older threads. Busy at the moment but later I will dig out what you need to do unless amts gets here first!

              Hi
Thank you, I've have now seen and fixed to problem

I've been doing a bit of skim reading and I think I have come to the conclusion to stay away from the prado. I don't think it's the car for me

My plan was to turn this into an awesome extremely capable off-roader like my surf but with more comfort than my surf and long term ownership

I'm seen quiet a lot of posts with cracked bodies, crack chassis from off-road use.

This causes me problems as should need to be even having this thought in mind.

What's this road going to crack?

I don't have money for fixing stuff.

I haven't even started looking at the motor issues yet

They all have their downsides Dave. Pathfinders had exhaust stus closest to firewall cracking and the chassis rails rusting through...

There are many that don't have issues. You just don't hear about them on internet forums.

I was happy with just the engine problems. I understand that I must spend the dollars making it a reliable engine.

I cant deal with worrying about structural problems

I do like my offroading. I do the harder rocky tracks, corry roads, will be winching a bit. This is not just a beach runner.

The prado was to be my replacement for my surf.

Yes, Ive had a few problems with parts breaking as well, but its just parts, not parts of the chassis or frame.

Please accept my apologies. I didnt come here to attack my fellow 4wders. I am a toyota person.

I don't think anything you are talking about will result in structural issues. There are some hardcore 90s, 120s and 150s on here. I suspect, and this is just my opinion, the cracking guards are the result of heavily corrugated roads, too high tyre pressure and / or overloading. Happy to be corrected but I don't think there is a definitive cause.

                          No need to apologise,
There is not enough to call engine problems, like all common rail euro 4+ egr systems cause many problems.
So there are egr problems, & it contributes & causes many other problems. But the information has been put out there, so it's easy to reduce these issues.
The gaurd cracking is a very low percentage, it's not really structural & most of us can avoid it. It's not chassis. Although surfs do that
There's repair kits available for it also.
You will find more problems with a comparable vehicle.
So don't worry, get one, take advise, take precautions, & you will have one of the mst comfortable, capable, reliable vehicles available to you.

                            ok

I do like the extra tow capacity of the prado compared to the surf.

How much are the repair/patch kits.

Ive found a couple pics of it but no prices

Panel beater reckons it would be easier to tack weld them rather than use the 52 odd nuts and bolts. These parts are listed for the US version hence don't appear on Australian Toyota parts systems.
