  • Toyota Landcruier 70s - Towing - access rear door?

    Hi guys,

I currently have a Prado 120 and the only thing that really bothers me is the rear door when I am towing. I can't open it as the hitch gets in the way. The other day someone went to open the door for me and they aren't aware that the door won't clear the trailer. It hit!

I am constantly towing a boat and a box trailer.

If I was to buy this: http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...-3571921/?Cr=8

Would I have the same issue? Seems like it is a little higher and I should be able to access the boot. ANybody with experience with this car?

    Thanks

Forgot to ask, what is it like towing 2T even though it is manual on these? Especially on steep boat ramps, is the clutch decent on these?

Can you put a lower hitch on? Or get a different hitch?

The one I have been away with once could open the doors over his camper, other than that I took no notice. You can however use low range and leave the front hubs unlocked, works great for boat ramps, reversing trailer, etc. The Hilux and Prado clutches have heaps more issues than the Landcruiser ones do. Only thing most don't realise is the ARB side steps have to be removed to do the clutch, they bolt on over the top of the crossmember and quite often have very rusty bolts that like to snap, can add an expense when it does come around.

That's top dollar for that year model 76'

A mate just yesterday bought a 2010 VX 200 series with 80 odd K on it for 58k with bulbar snorkel etc.

Back to the question...........I have towed with the troopy a hell of a lot off road dragging a 3t compressor around and have never had an issue with the clutch or anything else really.
            Can I still play now I have a 200 series?........Had a 2008 120 Series D4D Manual 6 Speed...STANDARD White, Soverign Bar..........Rear Cage........Dashmat.......GX Wheels with Good Year Dura Tracs........Bilstein/Dobbo 2'' lift.....Safari Snorkel....Canvas Seat Covers.....20%tint..........55W HID Headlights.....Mudmats front and rear.....
            22'' Lightbar......
