  • UHF Antenna Location

My GME antenna base is stuffed [the thread which the antenna attaches to is stuffed]. In its current location on the bull bar it drives the passenger mad with its vibrations. Is there any reason why, when I replace it, it can't be mounted on a Z bracket onto the back mudguard bolt? I know all of the stuff about signal strength/direction , height etc as it is covered elsewhere in here. This is more about getting out of the passenger's line of sight and having the little 30 cm. bit that is always there out of the way.

I have mine mounted on the drivers side on the last bolt holding the front guard on, not in my direct line of sight and no appreciable difference with regards to signal strength/transmission

      hey 404,
My mrs hates the same thing. And I cant blame her! I'm thinking of mounting mine behind the spare wheel. But it means making a bracket for it. easy enough just havent got round to it. I think this would be a good high spot and out of the way of tree branches. Maybe something to consider?

Mounting the antenna at the spare tyre requires a longer cable run that is out of reach of most cables that comes with the antenna.

If vibration is the issue you can try putting some heat shrink around the spring. I did and the Mrs has never once complained about it.
